Hi everyone,

The researchers seem to have been busy lately. I found four (!) breast cancer vaccines that are all targeting her2/neu with some recent success in mice. I decided to put them all together rather than cluttering up the board, since these are only mice we are talking about, after all.

The vaccines are listed in no particular order.

A. Department of Oncology-Pathology, Karolinska Institutet, Cancer Centrum Karolinska, Stockholm, Sweden

"A single vaccination with polyomavirus VP1/VP2Her2 virus-like particles prevents outgrowth of HER-2/neu-expressing tumors."

Result: "The results show the feasibility of using MPyV-VLPs carrying Her2 fusion proteins as safe and efficient vaccines against Her2-expressing tumors."

B. University of Miami School of Medicine and Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, FL 33136, USA

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.f...6253&query_hl=5

"Enhanced inhibition of murine tumor and human breast tumor xenografts using targeted delivery of an antibody-endostatin fusion protein."

Result: "Linking of an antiangiogenic protein, such as endostatin, to a targeting antibody represents a promising and versatile approach to antitumor therapy."

C. Department of Surgery, Washington University School of Medicine, St. Louis, Missouri 63110, USA.

A tat fusion protein-based tumor vaccine for breast cancer.

Result: "Immunized mice developed palpable tumors significantly later than control mice injected with DC-Tat-empty (P = .001 and P < .05 for two immunizations and for one immunization, respectively) or mice that received no DCs (P = .001 and P < .05). Similarly, immunized mice had smaller resulting tumors than mice injected with DC-Tat-empty (P < .05 and P < .01) or untreated mice (P < .001 and P < .001). Significantly more tumor-specific CD8(+) splenocytes were found in twice-immunized mice than in untreated animals (P < .001)."

D. Department of Dermatology and University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, PA

Enhanced immunity by NeuEDhsp70 DNA vaccine Is needed to combat an aggressive spontaneous metastatic breast cancer

Result: These observations suggest that NeuEDhsp70 DNA vaccine is a promising reagent to induce potent anti-tumor immunity to an aggressive spontaneous metastatic breast tumor.
