Delivering a high-birth-weight infant more than doubles a woman's breast cancer risk, according to research from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. The researchers suggest that having a large infant is associated with a hormonal environment during pregnancy that favors future breast cancer development and progression...

Yet one more risk factor that gets me - first baby was 8 lbs 13 oz and second was 9 lbs 15 oz.

3/01/10: found lump in rt.breast
3/12/10: mammogram/ultrasnd/biopsy-invasive bc & DCIS; 2 tumors (2cm er-/pr-/HER2-& 1.8 cm er-/pr-/HER2+); grade 3;poorly differentiated
3/24/10:sent.node biopsy clear
3/31/10:bi-lateral mx.;atypical ductal hyperplasia-lft side
4/21/10:wound revision-infection/scarring 4/28/10:seromas both sides
5/21/10:port installed,TCH chemo (6 x 3 wks); Herc,-1yr; 33 rad tx after chemo
07/2010: port not working-2nd port didnt'work;3rd port opposite side.
07/2010: 2 weeks after 3rd port surgery, threw 3 pulm. emboli-IVC filter installed; warfarin
08/2010: hospitalizations w/3 of chemos; decision to stop after 4th-on to radiation in Oct 2010;Herc cont.
12/03/2010 - finished 33 rads Hooray!! cont. Herc. every 3 wks
4/2011 - pneumonia ??? Nope-radiation pneumonitis. No more Herc.
5/2011 - NED!!! port out.
8/2011 - clean PET & CT scans.Still NED
7/2012 - Still NED/very blessed.
2/2013 - 6 mos checkup-all clear. CA2729 down frm 13 to 11.

Of 3 babies - one was a 10 pounder and the other 2 were just under 9 pounds.

Found lump via BSE
Diagnosed 8/04 at age 45
1.9cm tumor, ER+PR-, Her2 3+(rt side)
2 micromets to sentinel node
Stage 2A
left 3mm DCIS - low grade ER+PR+Her2 neg
lumpectomies 9/7/04
4DD AC followed by 4 DD taxol
Used Leukine instead of Neulasta
35 rads on right side only
4/05 started Tamoxifen
Started Herceptin 4 months after last Taxol due to
trial results and 2005 ASCO meeting & recommendations
Oophorectomy 8/05
Started Arimidex 9/05
Finished Herceptin (16 months) 9/06
Arimidex Only
Prolia every 6 months for osteopenia

NED 18 years!

Really interesting, I wonder if this just applies to hormone receptor positive bc or her 2 as well.
Slightly off the subject but related my onc says he has found that women who have a very large increase in breast size whilst feeding appear to have a greater risk of bc. Certainly true for me as went from 34b to 36gg and struggled to find a suitable bra!

My healthy and beautiful baby girl was 11.1 pounds - (can there be any doubt I had a c section?). I was also 43 years old at the time of my daughter's birth (and turned 44 the next month).
This is interesting. I hope others post.

Mmmmm interesting. I had two big ones also, 9lbs 4, and 9lbs, both delivered early and by c-section, and then breastfed for approx 15 months (due to milk allergies)

20th Dec 2011 bone/cat scan clear still NED
April 2012 scans show axillary node lump - ? what to do...
June 2012 Axillary node dissection 1/11 nodes affected, a wide local excision shows DCIS. Now what to do again? Watch and scan 3 monthly
April 2013, two spots in nodes to chest wall, start TDM1 (Kadcycla) as part of clinical trial
July 2013 stable
Oct 2013 progression off TDM-1 (Kadcycla)
Nov 2013 radiation to lymph nodes in sternum
Dec 2013. Mastectomy right side, pathology shows tumour was HER-2 negative, no wonder TDM-1 (Kadcycla) didn’t work!
April 2014 NED. On Herceptin only
August 2014 NED. On Herceptin only
March 2015. NED. On Herceptin only
September 2015 NED on Herceptin only
March 2016. Pulmonary embolism, Clexane injections daily forever. Still NED On Herceptin only
Nov 2016. Bone Mets in ribs - Radiation. Don’t know if bone Mets are er-/pr-/HER2+ or triple negative.
Can’t give self injections on to tablets (Xarelto) for blood clots.
2017 NED - On Herceptin only
2018 NED - On Herceptin only
2019 NED - On Herceptin only
2020 NED - On Herceptin only
2021 NED - On Herceptin only

Karen, me too 11.1 lbs. I thought I was the only one!!! She is a sweet healthy 12 year old and thin!!

I do wonder how er/pr- and her2 might or might not fit into the equation.

Hey Anna,
My daughter is 16 (will be 17 next month) and also healthy, tall (about 5 feet 9.5 inches) and thin- although bigger boned than me or her dad- more like my mom (who was 5 feet 10 inches). When I went to get a sono on my due date I saw the technician's face "drop". Given my age (and fertility issues) I was scared to death- I had already suffered through a fairly traumatic miscarriage. The tech replied "oh, everything is fine...the baby is beautiful....she just looks to be between 11-12 pounds)!! Needless to say, my OB called me at 9:01 the next morning to "discuss" options (or really - lack thereof). I thought I was the only one as well.

Yes, there was only one option with that size of a baby, that is forsure!!
