Memorial Forum?
I know we've discussed this before, but it seems an appropriate time to throw it out there again. Although I personally only really ever come to this main forum, there are lots of others forums within HER2support that are specific to different aspects of dealing with breast cancer.
I would like it if we had a memorial forum, or a remembrance forum, or whatever we'd like to call it (but not a "has become an angel" please). Where the title (new thread title) would be the person's name, and all the lovely tributes and poems and prose would be safely held there. Brenda's, for example, are already quite scattered under different threads and will soon be lost to all but the most persistent searcher. If some of us had time, we could cull some of the person's representative posts and add them in "their" forum, so that it was not just what those of us left had to say, but had that definite flavor of our lost one.
I know an argument against this, in the past, has been that it was Joe's preference that we not do this, for fear of scaring people. But I don't see how keeping the same posts that are already happening, but just in a separate forum, would be any more scary. In fact, it could be less scary because if people did not want to read of the losses, they could simply not go to that forum.
Don't you find yourself some days, for no reason, with strong thoughts of a certain person rambling around in your head and heart? Wouldn't you like, on those days, to easily re-visit "their" thread, and re-connect for a few minutes? I would.

Right now, there is a place for the names of the deceased. I brought this up earlier under a thread entitled "Honoring Our Lost." The place the names have been put is not easy to find. I also love the idea of celebrating the life of someone, I don't equate death with stopping and feel it is appropriate in all ways to include lost warriors. Of course, this is not my site, but I certainly wouldn't want to be forgotten should I lose my battle. I already miss Brenda's top hat photo.

Ablation incomplete. This life-saving procedure would end up causing me unforgiving pain with every movement I make, permanently, otherwise known as forever.
July 26, 2013: Try Navelbine/Herceptin. Body too weak after surgery and transfusion. Fever. CEA: Normal.
August 16, 2016: second dose Navelbine/Herceptin; CEA: Normal. Will skip doses. Watching and waiting.
September 2013: NED, Herceptin only. CEA: Normal. Started Arimidex.
October-November 2013: NED. Herceptin and Arimidex. CEA, CA125, 15-3: Normal.
December 2013: Something brewing. PET lights up on little spot on liver; CEA upward trend, just outside normal. PET and triphasic liver scan confirm Little Met. Restart Perjeta with Herceptin, stay on Arimidex. Genomic sequencing completed for future treatments, if necessary.
January 2014: Ablate Little Met on the 6th. Happy New Year.
March 2014: Brain MRI: clear. PET/CT reveal liver mets return; new lung mets. This is not funny.
March 2014: BEGIN TRIAL #10-005 A(11)-Temsirolimus plus Neratinib.
April 2014: Genomic testing indicated they could work, they did not. Very strange drug combo for me, felt weird.
April 2014: Started Navelbine and Herceptin. Needed something tried and true, but had significant progression.
June 2014: Doxil and Herceptin.
July 2014: Progression. Got nothing out of it. Brain: NED.
July 2014: Add integrative medical hematologist-oncologist to my team. Begin supplements. These are tumor-busting, immune system boosters. Add glutathione, lysine and taurine IV infusions every three weeks.
July 2014: Begin Gemzar, Herceptin & Perjeta. Happy.
August 2014: ECHO perfect.
January 2015: Begin weekly Vitamin D Analog infusions. 25 mcg. via port.
February 2015: CT: stable.
April 2015: Gem working, but not 100%. Looking into immunotherapy. Finally, treatments for the 21st century!

Joe tried to have a way for us to access the deceased members' posts, by keeping their name activated as a link, just as it is for the active members.
The name is clickable and takes you to a place where there is a choice to view either All Posts or All Threads started by that person.
What bothers me about the Deceased Members list is that there are also live links to private messaging and email, which is most likely inactivated. Those could be removed in MHO.

Stage IIB, 8 pos nodes of 18, Grade 3, ER & PR -
Adriamycin 12 weekly, taxotere 4 rounds
36 rads - very little burning
3 mos after rads liver full of tumors, Stage IV Jan 2002, one spot on sternum
Weekly Taxol, Navelbine, Herceptin for 27 rounds to NED!
2003 & 2004 no active disease - 3 weekly Herceptin + Zometa
Jan 2005 two mets to brain - Gamma Knife on Jan 18
All clear until treated cerebellum spot showing activity on Jan 2006 brain MRI & brain PET
Brain surgery on Feb 9, 2006 - no cancer, 100% radiation necrosis - tumor was still dying
Continue as NED while on Herceptin & quarterly Zometa
Fall-2006 - off Zometa - watching one small brain spot (scar?)
2007 - spot/scar in brain stable - finished anticoagulation therapy for clot along my port-a-catheter - 3 angioplasties to unblock vena cava
2008 - Brain and body still NED! Port removed and scans in Dec.
Dec 2008 - stop Herceptin - Vaccine Trial at U of W begun in Oct. of 2011
STILL NED everywhere in Feb 2014 - on wing & prayer
7/14 - Started twice yearly Zometa for my bones
Jan. 2015 checkup still shows NED
2015 Neuropathy in feet - otherwise all OK - still NED.
Same news for 2016 and all of 2017.
Nov of 2017 - had small skin cancer removed from my face. Will have Zometa end of Jan. 2018.

While I can appreciate Joe's thinking on this matter, the truth is we are all scared. Death is a part of life no matter how much we wish it not so. It is how the universe unfolds and to pretend none of us will die of our cancer, or by other causes is silly. I do not want to lose some of the most wonderful people who once populated this site to the haze of chemo-brain. To go and read many of the lovely tributes about our fallen heroes is a privilege I'd like to be able to avail myself of. I say "YES."

Being an ol' history teacher, I believe we live and learn fully when we embrace the past and then live in today. It would be like mini biographies of those we love so dearly and can still learn and grow from. Tells the "whole story" of who we are and can become. Maybe we're ready now.

I agree w/Rhonda, It sounds like a great Idea. This is Joe a Christine's site for all of us and it did come with a few conditions and this being one of them. (Memorial thread) We all know this. It just doesn't seem right for us to over ride their wishes. Just my opinion. I certainly don't want to offend anyone here ever.

10/13 Ct has shown Double left ureters with stones/cysts in them, after 3 births and lots and U/S iit takes cancer to figure out you have 2 smaller ureters going into 1 kidney!
12/13 Mri brain no new lesions, cervical and lumbar arthritis.
Tspine lesion at T3 stable, T 7-9 GROWTH lots of pain
1/29/14 HIHO HIHO its off to Neuro surgery I go

Being mostly a lurker on this forum over the years, I agree.
I also would like to ask those who have memorable quotes from Brenda's years on this forum to please share them with me. Her celebration of life is this Saturday and we would like to share some of her witty and inspiring comments from this forum since it was a part of her life that mattered.

Great idea to check with Christine.
If I recall, Joe was concerned that if the memorial included treatment history there would be a chance that a new comer would review and try to relate to a personal prognosis. (I could see myself doing that)
I like the idea of a personal description of who we were. I think of Lolly, Woman of Steel, touseled frequently and would love to go out and issue a current post to let them know that they are remembered, and loved and I still rely on the support they provided me 5 years ago.

I always supported the idea of a Memorial Forum/Tribute forum. I may circulate this idea formally as I am on the Board of Directors for this organization.
This does not mean I will be successful in any way but I will give it a shot. However, I might put up a poll first. Just because those who wrote or responded positively to this post, it does not mean this is a concensus. So later today I will put up a "sticky" poll and try to get as many responses as possible and present to others on the Board and we will go from there. Fair?

left 3mm DCIS - low grade ER+PR+Her2 neg
lumpectomies 9/7/04
4DD AC followed by 4 DD taxol
Used Leukine instead of Neulasta
35 rads on right side only
4/05 started Tamoxifen
Started Herceptin 4 months after last Taxol due to
trial results and 2005 ASCO meeting & recommendations
Oophorectomy 8/05
Started Arimidex 9/05
Finished Herceptin (16 months) 9/06
Arimidex Only
Prolia every 6 months for osteopenia
NED 18 years!

Dx July '05 IDC 1.9cm Triple positive 3/9 nodes positive
A/C X 4 ..Taxol/Herceptin x 12 wks then herceptin 1 yr
Rads x 36 ..oophorectomy August '06
Currently taking Arimidex..
June 2011 osteopenia/ zometa x1 yearly- stopped Zometa 2015 as Dexa show normal bone density.
Stopped Arimidex July 2014- Restarted Arimidex 2015 for a further two years on the advice of my Onc.
2014 Normal Dexa scan
2018 Mammo all clear, still NED!
