I was diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago, stage III, HER2 positive, ER/PR negative, 4.5 cm tumor, 13/15 nodes positive. I was given Herceptin outside of the trial. Had masectomy, 4 rounds AC, followed by 6 weeks radiation, followed by 4 rounds Taxotere with weekly Herceptin for 6 months.

My oncologist would not give me more than 6 months of Herceptin because it was not approved, the long term side affects were not known, and it was not proven that 1 year would be more beneficial than 6 months. All my heart scans were normal and the last one was actually better than before I started AC.

I asked him last week if it would be beneficial to go back on Herceptin. He said that because I have been out of treatment more than 1 year, no. So, I didn't push it. But, now I found out that he put one of his other patients (who had a similar treatment plan) back on Herceptin.

I am looking for some other opinions on this.

Thanks

I would get another opinion and go for it and it's a go. Herceptin has proven it's worth with Her2Neu folks. Did you ask him for more details? It doesn't make sense if he already put a previous patient back on Herceptin. How are you tumor markers?
