Coconut Oil

http://www.naturodoc.com/library/nut...il_healthy.htm

I have been hearing more about the value of coconut oil and have recently started using it. I bought the unrefined virgin coconut oil from the health foods store. This weekend I used it while cooking my pancakes and also tossed my veggies in it before roasting. Turned out GREAT!!

Re: Coconut Oil

I use it for lubrication - I am very prone to UTIs, and applying the pure unrefined 100% virgin coconut oil "down there" has helped.

all the best

Re: Coconut Oil

I went for my first appointment with an Ayurvedic practitioner who is a Naturopath also, just last Wednesday. He told me to buy organic coconut oil to use on my skin where it is tight and sensitive from radiation. He said in Ayurvedic medicine we need to cool where it was hot, so the coconut oil will cool where the radiation was directed. I do like how it makes my skin feel, but I must say it smells a bit strong to me. Is it just me, or does it smell like cigarettes burning in an ashtray??

Wink Re: Coconut Oil

Interesting !! Scientists are finding all kinds of healthy things from all over the world. I use coconut water for potassium. Is the coconut oil high on the gycemic index?
Does it have omega 3, 6 or 9? I bet it tastes good.

Re: Coconut Oil

I have been using Coconut oil in my VitaMix shakes--about 3 times a week--

1 Frozen organic banana
1 Cup organic Keifer
2 Tbsp. ground organic flaxseed meal
1 Heaping Tbsp. organic refined coconut Oil
1 Packet of Amazing Grass-organic Wheat Grass mixed w/1/4-1/2 cup of cold water

Put all of that in the VitaMix--blend for maybe 20 seconds---

Of course you can add another fruit if you wish, sometimes I add fresh organic figs or berries---depends---

YUMMY!!!!

Lightbulb Re: Coconut Oil

I come from the South Western State in India, Kerala known for its Coconuts and till the 1970s we were using it regularly. But then there were research papers which said it increases Cholestrol and we stopped it, But latest research gives a different picture and I am now using the same and also giving Hema Raw Coconit oil as a salad dressing
Hope there is more good news for all of us.But I would like Tanyas view on the use of Coconut oil
