Unhappy Hard times

I'm sorry for the loss, Liz. We lost our best friend just before diagnosis. I'm glad your friend too has been so meaningful in your life.

Remembering,

AlaskaAngel

Exclamation Sorry Liz

A little slip of the fingers on the keyboard and I was calling you Sweetness Rex instead of Red. I pointed out your post to Ed yesterday. We sat there and remembered grand stories of our English Springer Spaniel named Haley and other wonderful family members. Haley was a great boy who sits right at our bedstand and I say goodnight to him every night. Please accept my deepest apologies for the finger-slip. While talking about him last we did call him Red and Ed enjoyed reading the outpouring of support from this group once again. Thanks again for sharing this story with us all. And thanks for giving us all a moment to remember all of our heros. I envision Red playing with Haley and all the others up in Pet Heaven!! And I hope again you are feeling better soon.>>Believe51

You and your family have my sympathy. It was hard for me to let go of my Floydie and my Lucky when their time came, so I've been there. The love they give us is amazing. God bless all dogs (and cats and other creatures).

So Sorry

Liz, I am so sorry about your loss. I know how sad it is to lose a pet. They mean so much to us. My bassets have helped me through this breast cancer so much. When there were times I couldn't talk to anyone I would hug them and cry and they would lick my face clean. They didn't even care about my bald head. I lost my 13 year old "Lucy" during my chemo. It was a very bad time. Sending you a hug today.

Dear Liz (little Pigeon)

I just wanted to say I am sorry about the loss of your beloved dog. It is very difficult to lose a pet. They never yell at you or complain about the food. You never look fat in your new dress and they are always excited to see you.

At least you were both there for each other when you both needed each other. That is what it is all about.

Love to you

Hello, all of you wonderfully strong amazing women. Believe's post just reminded me of a poem? short story? I read years ago by James Dickey, the author of "Deliverance" regarding pets in the afterlife. I recommend it, even though I can't recall the title. I found it comforting. Love, Bill

Liz - I have been ignoring your post for a few days...not because I don't like you or anything like that, but because it breaks my heart to even think of loosing my own baby. I argued with my now ex for several years before he finally brought the dog home. After so many fights about a dog, he asked me why I didn't want a dog (knowing I am a big dog lover)...I looked at him, thought about it and said, "because they die." When my ex and I split, every other weekend he would come and pick up the kids and the dog. After a while, the kids didn't want to go anymore and he didn't argue about it - BUT he still came every weekend and took the dog. He tried to keep the dog, so I told him to take me too court. He was too chicken to go to court (he would have lost). I have lost two dogs in my life that lived very long and wonderful lives, so I know what you are going through. This baby of mine has gotten me through the divorce and 8 years of illness. He is not allowed to sleep on my bed, but I have slept on the floor with him many times. I am very sorry for your loss... P.S. My picture is of me on a rocking horse I found in a store over the summer. It's a Bernese/Swiss Mountain Dog...that's my baby....

Liz,
I am glad you were able to share with us about Red. I understand completely about loosing a pet. We lost our dear Westie (Jordie), who was 17 years old, 3 years ago. a I still miss her deeply.

Red was special, remember the memories. She is with Jordie at the Rainbow Bridge.

The Heaven of Animals

Here they are. The soft eyes open.
If they have lived in a wood
It is a wood.
If they have lived on plains it is grass rolling
Under their feet forever.

Having no souls, they have come,
Anyway, beyond their knowing.
Their instincts wholly bloom
And they rise.
The soft eyes open.

To match them, the landscape flowers,
Outdoing, desperately
Outdoing what is required:
The richest wood,
The deepest field.

For some of these, it could not be the place
It is, without blood.
These hunt, as they have done,
But with claws and teeth grown perfect,

More deadly than they can believe.
They stalk more silently,
And crouch on the limbs of trees,
And their descent
Upon the bright backs of their prey

May take years
In a sovereign floating of joy.
And those that are hunted
Know this as their life,
Their reward: to walk

Under such trees in full knowledge
Of what is in glory above them,
And to feel no fear,
But acceptance, compliance.
Fulfilling themselves without pain

At the cycle's center,
They tremble, they walk
Under the tree,
They fall, they are torn,
They rise, they walk again.

-- James Dickey

Thank you

Dear HER2 family,

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your outpouring of compassion, sympathy and understanding have helped us (I shared this with my husband) so much. It gave us strength and gave even more meaning to Red's life as I know she touched so many more of us. The avatar is of her and Erin taken about a year and a half ago. Red is the lady standing up talking to Erin.

Again words can't express how much your words mean to us.

With Love,

Liz J. & family
