takin a break
Hi boys and girls,
Just wanted to let you know I will be taking a little break from the board - I'm way too addicted!
I'm fine, but this new treatment really has me spinning with some of the side effects and I just need to focus on getting back in balance and imagining that Herceptin-dm1 chewing up nasty ca cells.
I figure if I trade my Her2support time for meditation and visualization, I can make yogi in about 2 weeks, melt all the cancer away, and maybe even cure this thing for us all. Flori of course is my inspiration for that...
For the record, nobody offended me, I'm not mad at anyone - I love you all and will continue to think of and pray for you daily. I might lurk a bit - somebody's got to keep an eye on Wild Bill and the Pink one - but will "try" to do it quietly!
Just wanted to let you know so nobody worries. If you need to (cause I just KNOW you can't live without me! LOL) you can email me.

You're an angel for being so thoughtful, letting us know so we wouldn't worry. And we would, ya know! I can so relate to being a HER2 junkie. I vote for meditation and guided imagery over all! Your job now is to HEAL dear Sister. 24/7! I know if you put your mind to it (pun intended) -- you can create miraculous outcomes! That's what I'll be praying for for you, Chrisy. I can see you connecting w/your Spirit and finding a truly blissful, serene place to hang while your ca cells disintegrate!
Just wanted to share -- when I felt like crap (can I say that?) during tx -- I would always remind myself, JUST THINK HOW LOUSY THOSE CANCER CELLS FEEL! Gotta do what you gotta do. Just promise you'll take extra good care of yourself. Pampering is definitely allowed! And don't forget to laugh! Maybe you can just check the Most Embarrassing Moments thread each day to get you rolling. On the floor I mean...

'95 post-meno dx Invasive LOBULAR w/9cm tumor! YIKES + 2/21 nodes. Clear mammo 10 mnths earlier. Mastec/tram flap reconst/PORT/8 mnths chemo (4Adria/8CMF). Borderline ER/PR. Tamoxifen 2 yrs. Felt BLESSED. I could walk and talk, feed and bathe myself! I KNEW I would survive...
'98 -- multiple mets to liver. HER2+ 80%. ER/PR- Raging, highly aggressive tumors spreading fast. New PORT. 9 mnths Taxotere Fought fire w/fire! Pronounced in cautious remission 5/99. Taxotere weekly for 6 wks, 2 wks off -- for 9 mnths. TALK ABOUT GRUELING! (I believe they've altered that protocol since those days -- sure hope so!!)
+ good old Vit H wkly for 1st 3 yrs, then triple dosage ev 3 wks for 7 yrs more... The "easy" chemo, right?! Not a walk in the park, but not a freight train coming at 'ya either...
Added Herceptin Nov '98 (6 wks after FDA fast-tracked it for met bc). Stayed w/Vit H till July '08! Now I AM FREE! Humbly and eternally grateful for this life-saving drug! NED since '99 and planning on keeping it that way. To hell w/poor prognosis and nasty stats! STOPPED VIT H JULY '08...! REMAIN STABLE... Eternally grateful...Yes is a world & in this world of yes live (skillfully curled) all worlds ... (e e cummings) EVERY DAY I BEAT MY PREVIOUS RECORD FOR # OF CONSECUTIVE DAYS I'VE STAYED ALIVE. Do what you have to to get the balance back in your life. I hope this new treatment works for you and the side effects fade with time. I will miss your humorous posts and look forward to the day you come back to us.

Balance, yes. I need the same. I just had to say no today to something I had been cooking up for the last few months. I have started to feel as though I have bitten off more than I can chew and my healthful life is definitely suffering!

Oct'08~ dropped Xeloda, switched to tri-weekly Herceptin in combo with Tykerb, extend to tri-monthly Zometa infusion
Dec'08~ Brain MRI- 4 spots reduced to punctate size, large spot shrunk by 3mm, CT of torso clear/pelvis spot stable
June'09~ new 3-4mm left cerrebellar spot zapped with IMRT targeted rads
Sept'09~ new 6mm & 1 cm spots in pituitary/optic chiasm area. Rx= 25 days of 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the tumors.
Oct'09~ 25 days of low dose 3D conformal fractionated targeted IMRT to the bone mets spot on rt. iliac crest that have been watching for 2 years. Added daily Aromasin back into treatment regimen.
Apr'10~ Brain MRI clear! But, see new small spot on adrenal gland. Change from Aromasin back to Tamoxifen.
June'10~ Tumor markers (CA15.3) dropped from 37 to 23 after one month on Tamoxifen. Continue to monitor adrenal gland spot. Remain on Tykerb/Herceptin/Tamoxifen.
Nov'10~ Radiate positive mediastinal node that was pressing on recurrent laryngeal nerve, causing paralyzed larynx and a funny voice.
Jan'11~ MRI shows possible activity or perhaps just scar tissue/necrotic increase on 3 previously treated brain spots and a pituitary spot. 5 days of IMRT on 4 spots.
Feb'11~ Enrolled in T-DM1 EAP in Denver, first treatment March 25, 2011.
Mar'11~ Finally started T-DM1 EAP in Denver at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center/Rose on Mar. 25... hallelujah.

I understand the need for the hiatus you must take to get back on tract. I also thank you for letting us all know because....YES, we would have been worrying, YES, we will miss you and SURELY YES, we cannot live without you.
I too am addicted to this site but I just cannot leave because it does help me to be balanced right now. I am with Harrie saying I should probally do the same thing as you are doing, but I am waaaayy too addicted!

Chrisy, Its so considerate of you to let us know your taking a break. Because your right...we WOULD worry. Your presents would definitely be missed in no time and I'm sure there are many of us that would go into panic mode until we heard from you. Now you wouldn't want that...or would you? lol All kidding aside...the number one thing is to take care of you. I must admit I will miss you with that wonderful sense of humor you have. You make me laugh all the time.
Plus I am all for you taking a break after you mentioned that you will melt all the cancer away, and might even cure this for us. I love the sound of that...so hopefully you've already started working on that. I know you will give it your best shot. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that your new treatment kicks some cancer butt. You take good care of yourself and...that's an order!

3-23-10 Ten days of rads to RT femur. Completed.
4-05-10 Quit Navelbine--Herceptin/Zometa alone.
5-4-10 Appt. with Dr. Slamon to see what is next? Waiting on FISH results from femur biopsy.
Results to FISH was unsuccessful--this happens less then 2% of the time.
7-7-10 Recurrence to RT axilla again. Back to UCLA for options.

2005 Navelbine herceptin had RFA Then back on taxol with herceptin
April 2006 progression again went on clinical trial with tykrerb/herceptin progressed on the started Xeloda/ herceptin
Feb 2007 started Doxil
August 2007 Taxotere,Carboplatin and Herceptin exstensive mets to liver and pancreas
October 2007 Had to stop Carboplatin due to sever allergic reaction
Jan 2008
Stopped Taxotere due to progression now on Gemzar and Herceptin
March 2008 Starting Carboplatin, Abraxane, and Herceptin.

10-10 Stopped Exemestane due to r. hip/l.thigh pain OKed by Onco 11-08-2016
7-23-2018 9 mm groundglass nodule within the right lower lobe with indolent behavior. Due to possible adenocarcinoma, Recommend annual surveilence.
7-10-2019 CT to check lung nodule.
1-10-2020 8mm stable nodule on R Lung, two 6mm new ones on L Lung, a possible lymph node involvement in inter fissule.

Sept.'99 - Dx.Stage IIIB, IDC ER/PR-, HER2+++ by IHC, confirmed '04 by FISH. Left MRM, AC x's 4, Taxol x's 4, 33 Rads, finishing Tx May 2000. Jan.'01 - local/regional recurrence, Stage IV. Herceptin/Navelbine weekly till NED August 2001, then maintenance Herceptin. Right Mast. April 2002. Local/Regional recurrence April '04, Herceptin plus/minus chemo until May '07. Gemzar added from Feb.'07-April '07; Tykerb/Abraxane until August '07, back on Herceptin plus Taxotere and Xeloda Sept. '07. Stopped T/X Nov. '07, stopped Herceptin Dec. '07, started Avastin/Taxol/Carboplatin Dec. '07. Progression in chest skin, stopped TAC March '03, started radiation.
Herceptin has served as the "Backbone" of my treatment strategy for over 6 years, giving me great quality of life. In 2005, I was privileged to participate in the University of Washington/Seattle HER2 Vaccine Trial.

I can totally understand why you need a break and hope you get the chance and time to concentrate on YOU and getting rid of this cancer for good. We'll miss you so don't stay away too long!

Rads x 36 ..oophorectomy August '06
Currently taking Arimidex..
June 2011 osteopenia/ zometa x1 yearly- stopped Zometa 2015 as Dexa show normal bone density.
Stopped Arimidex July 2014- Restarted Arimidex 2015 for a further two years on the advice of my Onc.
2014 Normal Dexa scan
2018 Mammo all clear, still NED!
