spoke too soon

Okay , well last week I posted that "all is well with me and the baby". Baby is still doing great, but I have suffered a side effect of having chemo and now being pregnant. It's kind of embarrassing, BUTT here it is. Hemorroids !!! I now have it so bad that I went to the ER sat. night. The ER doc told me that I will need surgery to get relief. I was surprised, but they prescribed me Percoset and a prescription strength cream. I will see my BC surgeon tomorrow for these nasties. I have done some reading and they are level 4 hemorroids. There is no shrinking these things or stapling them back in.

In the meantime I have been suffering with the pain. Just taking Tylenol. I have not been able to go to work, and feel so guilty about it. So obviously things are complicated being 32 weeks pregnant. How can I have a surgical procedure done now, but I cannot be in pain until this little boy is cooked and ready. These little nasties never really recovered from the chemo constipation and I am sure this has made it worse.
I understand this is a common side effect of pregnancy, but usually not so bad that it requires surgery.

Pray that we will make the best decision for me and the baby. I would hate to put him at risk, but I cannot wait 8 more weeks with this pain. Looks like my wish of a vaginal birth are out of the question now.

Still trying to stay positive,

Hi Laurie,

I experienced hemorrhoids while I was on Herceptin, they are awful!! Mine were not as bad as yours, but here's a tip that helped me:

Get some adult wipes from the drug store, and pour some witch hazel (the regular kind, not the medicated kind) about 1/2 bottle, into the container to soak through the wipes. Use these after you go to the bathroom. I also found that doing warm sitz baths a few times/day really helped. I also had the prescription cream - I don't know if these suggestions will help, but they did give me some relief until they finally disappeared.

Good luck.

all the best

Hi Laurie, I know just how you feel. When I was pregnant with my second son I had a thrombosed hemroid. It was one of the most painful experiences I have ever encountered. I was 8 1/2 mos pregnant and because I had previously had hemroids with my first I knew I would get them with my second. I went to my OB and said that I was uncomfortable and then the very next day I could barely walk. I went to a surgeon the very next day and I had no idea what they were going to do to me. Sounds like you going to have the same procedure I did. Believe me you WILL want the percs. It will definitely relieve your pain. I would suggest a "donut" pillow. After the procedure I couldn't even walk that much, I pretty much crawled. If you have any questions, just let me know.

I'll be thinking of you.

My surgeon cut it today and took out veins and clots. In lots of pain right now, but should be okay to back to work on Thursday. Surgeon thought it should not come back right away. I will have different hemmoroid surgery after baby is born. thanks for all your support. I just wish the the shot of lidocain would of lasted longer.

I am thinking about you darling girl and little Ned too! I have a birthing "roid" that bothered me mega during chemo and rears its ugly head now and again but it is nothing like you.

My mother-in-law had hemmoroid surgery and it worked out fine so after little Ned is born, you can get that taken care of the right way and it should be "behind" you for good!

Rest up lil momma.

Laurie,

I've had the darned things since college! Have had one banded and just control the rest most of the time. Sitz baths are wonderful to help with discomfort and promote healing too.

Laurie, feeling better?? Thinking about you and baby so much lately. Sorry I cannot help but my 'pain in the butt' did not happen until my son was about 10 (sorry J...Mommy loves you). In all seriousness, I am a person whom gets constipated with stress and I have had bouts with these nasties myself, I can relate. Take care Sweetheart and whisper 'Auntie Loves You' to my nephew please.>>Believe51

Laurie-
you said your embarrased of hemmorroids(sp?), don't you wish they were too embarrased to come out in the 1st place? After my 3rd child I got diagnosed with moderate roids, yuk. Warm Sitz baths with some epsom salt 3x daily. Also my naturalpath suggested using some natural vitamin E oil on them. The vitamin E helps soothe and heal. I hope you get permanent relief soon. Wishing you the very best.

This I know about! Try a natural vit E capsule. Insert the whole capsule or break it open and apply or both. Imediate relief. Good luck
