Low Muga prior to Herceptin

Hi

My wife has just had a low Muga score prior to Herceptin and hence it has been delayed.

She has had 4 treatments of EC and is due to start Taxotere & Herceptin. Her Muga score was 46% and she is very worried about it because she has it in her head that this is unusually low and can not be recovered.

One of the reasons she is worried is that she has always been very fit, not overweight, horse rides daily, eats well and now at 49 this. It has hit her harder than the original diagnosis.

How "normal" is this and what can she do to increase the score.

Cheers, Ron

She could ask her oncologist about using a supplement called CoQ10 (since she is on chemo too she should ask. When on Herceptin alone, it really doesn't matter). Also, walking helps a lot but I don't know if she gets the same cardio from riding.

It will probably recover if the E part of the EC made it a bit sluggish. If not, a cardiologist may be able to help so she can get some Herceptin treatments.

Hope this helps. I am sure others will have some tips.

Muga Scan

I was on Herceptin March - June 2006 while on Taxotere got very ill with lung infection and all was stopped since only had one additional treatment. Restarted Herceptin every 3 wks from Aug til Dec 2006 when my Muga scan changed from 68% to 51% will find out next week if volume has improved now that I am off everything. Which it should be according to my onc most MUGA scans show marked improvement once Herceptin is stopped. If so can restart Herceptin (if onc approves)and try to finish or maybe the new drug
Tykerb I am going to ask my onc about starting that if I come out of remission.

Good Luck and God Bless
Cindy
