HER2 trial

I'm newly diagnosed (April, 2013). My first diagnosis was just stage 0 DCIS, no spread to the lymph nodes, and margins were clear after lumpectomy. I'm going to start radiation tomorrow, which for what I was given was the routine treatment. I'm hormone negative, so no other drugs. My facility for radiation is part of the Cleveland Clinic, so on my first visit to the radiation oncologist, I was approached about participating in a study if my sample was HER2 positive (this test wasn't routinely done, so it was the first part of the study). The result was it was, so I could elect to participate in the second part, which is to study whether radiation only or radiation plus 2 doses of herceptin improves chances of remaining cancer free. I had my first dose of herceptin on Wednesday. So far no ill effects, just 2 nasty bruises on my arm where the nurse attempted and then succeeded inserting the IV. Has anyone else participated in this study? I guess it's been around since 2008.

Re: HER2 trial

Hello, and thanks for sharing.

I haven't heard of this study, but it sounds like an excellent idea. I'll be looking forward to seeing the data from the study.

I'm so glad you took the initiative and joined the study.
