AA, here's the article you mentioned in your post on the other thread. I'm kind of confused also, as I thouht that SOME suppression of Cox2 was a good thing. I'm going to look for an article I read some time ago about low-dose aspirin (81 mg) being optimum for that purpose.

Painkillers May Threaten Power of Vaccines
http://vaccines.wordpress.com/2006/1...r-of-vaccines/

Here's some clarification on the ability of aspirin to inhibit Cox1 more than Cox2, therefore preserving the good function of inflammation:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspirin
"...There are at least two different types of cyclooxygenase: COX-1 and COX-2. Aspirin irreversibly inhibits COX-1 and modifies the enzymatic activity of COX-2...It induces the formation of NO-radicals in the body that enable the white blood cells (leukocytes) to fight infections more effectively. This has been found recently by Dr. Derek W. Gilroy, winning Bayer's International Aspirin Award 2005..."

Herceptin has served as the "Backbone" of my treatment strategy for over 6 years, giving me great quality of life. In 2005, I was privileged to participate in the University of Washington/Seattle HER2 Vaccine Trial.

I use to get a flu shot as a kid, then for YRS I never got it. But last yr I decided to get it just before starting chemo and this yr I got the vaccine once again since it is been about 6 months since I finished chemo.
I got it just to be safe.

Smile Question regarding NSAIDs and BC

Hi Everyone! I read this site frequently, but have not posted before. You are all wonderful inspiration. After reading the links regarding NSAIDs and immune compromised individuals, I'm wondering if I should be taking the NSAID my pc prescribed only 2 wks ago for joint pain. I would rather live with hips that hurt than with the potential for my immune system not to produce antibodies it needs to fight the cancer. Any thoughts anyone?

I get a flu shot every year and this year I actually got my first pneumonia shot. I ended up with pneumonia but think that if I hadn't had the shot it would have been much worse. I say get the shot - don't take a chance.
