A new Ommaya - replacement in the brain or lumbar spine

Any experiences with having to remove an infected Ommaya? Daughter has been getting lumbar punctures since. Now the physician wants to put another one back in the brain -another site. There have been some mention of neurological damages doing the brain area in a repeated surgery. The physician said the lumbar region was more easily infected and/or dislodged. He also said the brain site allows better profusion of medications. It has been four months since the IT therapy has been done by lumbar injection and the brain has healed.
Any thoughts or experiences?
The meningeal carcinoma areas have stayed stable but no noticeable lessening in size. The physician has finally agreed to increase the herceptin IT dose.
Thanks for any thoughts or information.
