gemzar anyone?

Am starting gemzar very soon. Also Zometa for bone strength. Still staying on tyverb/herceptin. Hip shows some cancer, getting mri and ct of brain and thorax soon. Was expecting as much so not surprised. Does gemzar cause hair loss? just have mine back, will I lose it for the third time? if anyone has any info on side effects I would appreciate it. Am glad to be coming off xeloda, it stopped working and my hands and feet could do with a break.

Re: gemzar anyone?

Sorry to hear about your hip, Delaney but I have multiple bone mets and they are not causing me any trouble, possibly thanks to Zometa which I have been having since 2007. I was on Gemcitabine but only briefly while the onc was running through all the possible combinations of chemo and Herceptin before starting Tykerb (mad I know but at that time in Australia if you were given Tykerb the government refused to fund Herceptin and they still won't fund the two together.) I had already lost my hair by then thanks to Taxol but from what Elaine posted it looks like your hard won hair will hang in there! I certainly hope so. I am currently "enjoying" my fourth bout of baldness (Abraxane) and would dearly love to be hirsute again soon! Good luck with the treatment and do look after your hair as it seems you will have it for a good while yet.

Re: gemzar anyone?

Thanks Trish and Elaine, that article was interesting, seems 10% of people may lose their hair with gemzar. Hopefully i wont fall into that category.
