I Am New

I am new to this site. I am going with and going to marry a member of her2. Her name is Tammara Donnelly. She has been an survivor for four years, but it has just come back land she is going to have a mastectomy soon, and I know nothing about it or what will be expected of me. So any help would be greatly appreciated. SDH

Re: I Am New

I can only speak for my experience but it helped me tremendously that my husband verbalized that having a masectomy did not change him thinking of me as a beautiful and desirable person...or to put it blankly...that he was after all not in love with my boobs :-) but with me. That helped a lot dealing with the emotional aspect.

Physically she will not be able to do much for herself for about the first 1-2 weeks, depending on how long she needs the drains etc. Being cared for i.e. cooking, cleaning does wonders for recuperation.

SDH, just remember to let her know she is beautiful to you, that her body is still more than fine by you. Let her know she is your gal no matter what. I think that will go a long way to helping her cope and overcome.

Flowers are always good and you cooking is even better!

Re: I Am New

SDH,

Joe, our Webmast, has just compiled a 'caregivers guide'. Click on the link for Forum 'Caregivers corner' and you will find Joe's posting on the third line.

You can also use the 'Search' button on top, and look for 'caregivers guide'.

Good to have you here. My husband has been my caregiver for the whole 22 years we are married. A tough job. And I salute all of you.
