Doxil and Herceptin

Hello everyone,

I'm a reader on this site and decided to post and hoping for some responses. I've been fighting bc for the past 5 years and am getting ready to start Doxil and Herceptin together every 3 weeks. I'm worried about this combo as they are both really hard on the heart. My second opinion onc. told me that we should be able to see if it is working after 2 treatments. I had a muga scan today and will be watched closely. thanks for your help

Re: Doxil and Herceptin

Doxil is a cardiotoxic drug. Where do you hale from? I am asking because here in the States you rarely see Doxil used in BC and especially in conjunction with Herceptin. I would take CoQ10, Olive Oil, Fish Oil, and Grape Seed Extract to protect the heart. With those on board you should be okay, but do insist on regular echo-cardiograms. I am not a fan of mugas. Wishing you much good fortune.

I had to come back immediately and edit this post as I remembered that doxil is another name for adriamycin, the old red devil (because it turns the urine red). I will say that I was given doxil in conjunction with cytoxin. It was not fun, but doable. After 4 rounds of AC we began the Herceptin in cojunction with Taxol. In the States we do not routinely administer Doxil (adriamycin) with Herceptin due to the cardiotoxicity of both drugs. I would question receiving them together.
