Smile Neuropathy after Taxol? Finally I found help

After complaining to my doc about the pain and neuropathy in my feet ...that has been particularly draining and bothersome at night when I am not even ON my feet.., she suggested we "try" Gabapentin (300 Mg capsule one per day before bed).. That is the generic name for Neurotin, by the way.
Miracle of miracles. It turned off the pain like a switch and I have taken it every night since. No, not all pain all the time is gone but ...it is a quantum leap in paid reduction and I can sleep at night and not have pain in my feet...with much less of problem during the day. After 10 years of suffering, it was such a thrill to have this.

Re: Neuropathy after Taxol? Finally I found help

Wendywins, Hope Neurotin continues to give you greater improvemen.
I had Taxol with my primary diagnosis in 2006 and fortunately didn't get neuropathy then. However, I began getting Taxol again in March. Immediately after my first cycle of Taxol, neuropathy started in my hands and feet. My doctor had me go on Neurotin three times a day and Vitamin B6 100mg three times a day. The pins and needles, numbness and pain have not been eliminated but has improved. For most people, it may take several weeks before the Neurotin even begins to work. I hope my Neuropathy is not permanent?

Re: Neuropathy after Taxol? Finally I found help

I am afraid it is permanent but it does not have to be disabling as much as I feared. After now 11 years, it has not gotten worse....but the neurotinin has definitely helped.

Re: Neuropathy after Taxol? Finally I found help

I had what I guess would be considered mild/ moderate neuropathy and that's why my onc stopped after 4 doses of TCH. The symptoms linger on but I notice they are fading as time goes by. My feet will get numb-ish after being on them a lot but usually it isn't an issue
I also drank Glutamine at my onc's suggestion
Keep the faith
