Lightbulb Mississippi Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening Program

Mississippi has a program administered through the health department for the unisured. You have to be diagnosed through them. I did not know about the program and was getting ready to have my biopsy in Memphis when a nurse at that women's clinic told me about it. I changed over to the program and I was immediately put on Medicaid when I recieved my diagnosis. I am self employed and because of some health problems I have been turned down for health insurance. This program was literally a life saver for me. Anyone in Mississippi who is in the position should go and get a checkup throgh the health department. Spread the word to your friends. My family doctor had not heard of it. I didn't know much about medicaid and was afraid I would be limited in treatment options but I am going to one of the best clinics around. I think Texas also has a similar program but I am not completely sure of this. Hope this information helps someone. I didn't know much about medicaid and was afraid I would be limited in treatment options but I am going to one of the best clinics around. You are limited on prescription but I have solved that by getting the most expensive ones filled first and then paying for the others out of pocket. I also have a Sam's Club Business card that lets me get good discounts at Sam's and Walmart on prescriptions. It helps a lot.

I believe all states have a version of this program. It is funded through the National Center for Disease Control. I am insured under this program in Montana...The Montana Breast and Cervical Cancer Program. It is through Medicaid here.
