Good question. I have my off and on moments. When first diagnosed I
got all those thingies for the car. I refused to put them on. Now days
I might. Someone gave me pink rinestone reader glasses and I had so
many compliments and where did you get those, that I went out and
got four pair. If you have to wear readers, why not flash.

Diagnosed June, 06, Stage I, Grade3, ER+PR- Her2positive, No Nodes. A/C X 4. Radiation 33 with boost, Herceptin every two weeks until Nov.
07, Arimedex for 5 years. Mugas and Echo and chest xRay. Bone scan of whole Body, and Back of Brain and spine MRI.
CT scan of Lungs every six months
due to two small places. December
2009, bone scan due to bone pain.
Follow up test in 2010.

I have gotten some pink stuff from some well meaning people. And my twin sister has walked in the SGK 3-Day in Boston for the last 2 years in my honor, so I did purchase some things to wear while out on the route supporting her.
But, the thing that means the most to me is a charm bracelet that my Aunt started when I first started chemo. They got the word out that everyone should buy me a charm that would make me think of them and how they were supporting me through chemo. Well...I ended up with enough charms to get me through my first year in treatment! And those charms still come with me each week (the overflow ones are on a charm holder that attaches to a necklace). Some of them are pink ribbons, but most aren't and I love the people who are close to my heart (or on my wrist) for each treatment.
I don't necessarily mind the pink stuff...I just don't want to become the BC Poster child!

Diagnosed 10-03-2005 (34 wks pregnant, 38 yrs old)
Lumpectomy Nov-2005. 10/18 Lymph Nodes impacted
Mets to liver, spine & femurs (thus being stage IV right from the get-go)
ER-, PR-, HER2+
Taxol/Herceptin/Zometa started Dec-2005. 11 cycles of Taxol.
Sept-2006: PET/CT scan of mets to liver, spine and femurs - Stable. Activity in R breast & mediastinum (not seen in prior scans).
Navelbine (3 wks on/1 wk off) as of Oct--2006 & continued Herceptin (every 3 wks) & Zometa (every 6 wks)
Jan-2007: PET/CT Scan - Stable. Continued Nav. through March-2007, then Herc./Zom. only after that.
June-2007: PET/CT Scan - activity in mediastinum. Back on Navelbine as of July-2007.
Scanned Quarterly since Oct-2007 - a few small scares, but otherwise stable due to continuing weekly Navelbine, Herceptin and Quarterly Zometa.

I feel like if I see another pink ribbon, I'll puke. I'm just tired of thinking of cancer and don't want to advertise it. My son recently gave me the prettiest cross key chain holder. He said he couldn't decide between the cross or the breast cancer ribbon, I told him he made the right choice. I have been more drawn to crosses since my diagnosis. I guess it's a faith thing. I have never been one to wear pink or the ribbons to begin with. Through treatment I did wear the little pink bracelet (lance armstrong type). But took it off when chemo ended. I still have it and hopefully will never have to put it on again..sherryg

I received a lot of pink things when I was first diagnosed - the best being a hat from my sister that says "Cancer Sucks."
I reently purchased a license plate for the front of my car since GA doesn't have front plates. It has the pink ribbon on each end and between the ribbons in black letters the word "SURVIVOR." I like that because that's what I am, a survivor, and I want the world to know that you can survive breast cancer.

Dear Rhonda:
Me too share your feelings about this "pink" things. It bugs me that people think that I should wear or have things with the bc logo at home, or anywhere near me.. Having survived this long I really do not feel it makes or it has made a difference in my life. But Oh...Life goes on, doesn't it? I am just content and grateful we can count on so many drugs nowadays to help us live longer, healthier, hopeful, etc.etc.
No doubt this is an interesting posting. Thanks for sharing.

2013 Sept Herceptin + Perjeta . CA2729 within normal range. Brain and Pet scans October 31st. will post results.
2013 October Brain MRI- mixed response. Will see Onc/rad on Halloween.
2013 October/November Brain-MRI nothing new. Repeat MRI next year in May.
2013 December Continue Herceptin and Perjeta. Stable at the moment.
2014 February Brain MRI -clear!
2014 January Added Taxotere to Perjeta+Herceptin.
2014 March Stopped chemo-chest ct-scan next.
2014- March Scans shows tumor's larger, CA2729 higher. Discontinue Herceptin.
2014 April Perjeta+ Halaven
2014 April CA2729 went down 60 points after one cycle. Cough does not want to go away.
2014 June Continue on Perjeta + Halaven-- no more cough. Stable
2014 June Back on Herceptin + abraxane

Rhonda, I suppose I've been lucky as far as this pink thing goes. I was given one of those Lance Armstrong bracelets but that's it. I got that not long after being DX and have never received any other pink things. Other then that one thing I haven't been given any other things but that in the entire two years. Which actually is good for me because I just rather not go into it with anyone unless I choose too.
Pink has never been one of my favorite colors either...so its worked out well. But I can certainly understand where your coming from...it makes sense to me.

12-7-09 Navelbine added to Herceptin/Zometa.
3-23-10 Ten days of rads to RT femur. Completed.
4-05-10 Quit Navelbine--Herceptin/Zometa alone.
5-4-10 Appt. with Dr. Slamon to see what is next? Waiting on FISH results from femur biopsy.
Results to FISH was unsuccessful--this happens less then 2% of the time.
7-7-10 Recurrence to RT axilla again. Back to UCLA for options.
