Thumbs up ~'LilAcorn's (aka:Believe51's Mom) New Update

Mom finishes her radiation (33 total) on Friday. Skin is just starting to break and she has been faithful with her lotions. Now that skin is broken Kate mentioned a special creme to apply. I forgot the name I wrote down and do not have the heart to bother her again even though I know she would be happy to help.

Mom has handled everything so well thus far. For those who have not heard how she picked her name, she wanted her favorite Son-in-Law (Ahh, only SIL..LOL) to be proud of her!! Mighty Oak is "LilAcorn's bestest hero (smiling). There are some calcifications in the other breast that we will watch for now.

Mom will go on Tamoxifen and I was happy to give her Ed's last prescription so I would not have to flush them. Her Oncologist is spectacular and was thinking about what to put her on. Conclusion was the Tamoxifen is best choice for her situation. Her main issue is worrying about side effects.....not too bad, huh??

Any suggestions from you Fine Pals?? Do not want to miss anything along the way. She is not as sick as Ed and I thank God everyday for that but feel I am missing something.

Friend's, I have much knowledge concerning Inflammatory BC but my Mom has DCIS and I am still in training. I have been learning about DCIS since the start of Ed's journey but am not sure what else to do at this point in Mom's game.

Anything you offer will be of greatest help for us here in Lil Rhody. Sending Love>>Believe51

Hi Believe, Glad to hear that your mom is nearly done. Just wanted to tell you that the cream that I was prescribed was called Silvadene. It worked great but it's a little pricey (so, what else is new?)
Been following all your posts.
Love to you, your mom and the Mighty Oak.
Hugs

Marie,

Glad to hear that your mom's radiation treatment is ending. I also used Silvadene, but my onc said to use it very sparingly. He seemed to make a point of that as I remember.

I hope Ed is feeling well.

Joan

Marie,

Silvidene is the cream - you can get a prescripiton from the doctor. It doesn't take much and works great!

Sweet Marie,
Congrats are in order for LilAcorn!
Celebrate this milestone Friday!

Silvadene is the wonder cream for burn patients. I believe it actually has Silver in it (sometimes it will turn blackish from oxidation). It has wonderful healing properties. I didn't realize it could be used after Radiation. When I had my mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, my plastic surgeon prescribed it for daily application on my incisions. She said it worked better than antibiotic ointment.

I was on Tamoxifen to 8 months. I was very fortunate I didn't have any side effects except for minor hot flashes. I'm now on Arimidex and getting big time hot flashes.

My best to you, Ed and your mom!
Hugs, Joanne
