Does anyone know where I might find reduced priced prosthesis? I got a new one early this year because my old one was too small. Now this one is too big. I went from a size 5 to a 10 (I waited a while..) but now need about an 8. My insurance won't pay for another until sometime next year. This one is about to drive me nuts. Its just too big.

Call American Cancer Society and/or Cancercare. they might be able to help. Maybe someone on the board has one they don't need anymore??? Also ask at you oncologists office. Sometimes people leave things they don't need anymore to be passed on. We have a large shelf at my onc's office. I leave knitted hats, wig care items, canvas bags (get a ton of them from conferences), brochures (for Her2support.org) and whatever else I pick up that might be useful for others. The more expensive items, I give to the staff and ask them to offer it someone that may not be able to afford one on thier own (wigs, forms...). Good luck.

Try EBAY...many times you can get brand new overstock really cheap from sellers on EBAY...

Darn it Sassy.........I had 2 very nice ones that I no longer needed. I donated them to Knuepple Health Services to give to women who do not have insurance or their insurance wouldn't pay. I'd have been happy to give them to someone I knew. Oh well................maybe someone else has one sittin' around for our Sassy???

Dang it, I gave away a nice size 8L last year. A gal over at breastcancer.org (purplemb of pinkstock) started a wayward prosthesis, head wear program on her own and I sent it to her. She collects the items and finds them new homes.

Maybe you could pm her and see if she still has it, or has any others......

Sassy - I don't know if this would be a satisfactory alternative for you - but it would certainly be economical.

Sears sells prosthesis and you can get one for around $50.00. It's not going to be as good as one that sells for several hundred but it will work and could do you until you can claim your insurance funds. That's what I did. I've got the $400.00 special - but I also bought one from Sears as a backup. They're sold according to cup size.

There are two weights - a light foam one and a heavier one. Go for the heavier one.

I have found an $88 swim form that might be a viable alternative (thanks Maryann).

I'm checking ACS and cancercare, but mostly would have to visit somewhere, closest to me is 2 hours away.

Haven't found a reasonably priced one on e-bay yet.

Will try Margerie's friend and see what I can find at Sears.

Most swim forms are clear and hollow...to let water in and out....didn't know if you knew that...i found out the hard way!
