More Fruits and Veggies no better than 5 a day

http://www.asco.org/portal/site/ASCO...reutersid=6861

Its getting clearer that a wide variety of factors come into play for the prevention of recurrence. This includes the fats we eat and also - "energy balance" as eluded here. Exercise is a key ingredient to the mix. In fact, I believe that if a person asked me "I can only do one thing - what should it be"? I would tell them to walk 5-6 hours per week. It's not that I think diet isn't important too - I just think exercise is too (51%). Althought eatting toooooo many fruits and veggies is much better than too much cake and cookies (just not as much fun)!

Smile I agree Becky...

but I also think that WHAT fruits and vegetables are eaten matter too. So many people I talk to that say they eat a lot of fruits and vegetables also admit that they are the "non nutrient dense" fruits and vegetables (eg. corn, etc). Also, I think that the lack of Vitamin D has a role too (which reminds me, you recently posted how much "natural" Vitamin D you need each day, where did you get that information? That's why I try to DO IT ALL Well gotta take a shower as I just got done walking my 2 miles for today Take care and God bless.

The results seem confusing.

Does anybody have a link to the original trials?

More information on fat intake compliance, type of fats etc would be helpful.

Here's one of the vitamin D links. RB - I will look for the WHEL study as the WINS study is highly publicized. Also Rhonda, I agree with you about what kinds of veggies (ie: iceburg lettuce - things like corn, peas and lima beans I consider whole grains (or a more healthful starch versus white pasta or rice) but not a veggie like carrots, broccoli etc).

Unhappy "Food" for more thought

Here's an interesting commentary regarding a recent "reputable" study:
