Waiting for the scan results
Just waiting for my 3 months PET/CT scan results. I have been on Herceptin and Tykerb since 10 months and scans have been clear every 3 months. I am praying and hoping for the same results but my Her2 serum shot up by 5 points this time while all other markers are stable. I am really worried. I just started working after a long break. Please keep me in your prayers and thoughts.

Diagnosed in Sept 2004 while pregnant with the second child. Stage 3b, tumor 4.5cm, 4 auxillary and supraclav node positive. Her2+++ FISH 9.4 and er-,pr-.
Had dose dense neoadjuvant AC,Taxol then mastectomy,radiation+xeloda+Herceptin.

Diagnosed 8/7/08 with stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma, micropapillary pattern, Her2 3+, ER+,PR-, grade II, positive lymph nodes.
Received 6doses of Taxotere, Carboplatin with Herceptin continuing for a year...DONE.
1/28/09 Left Modified Radical Mastectomy, Right Simple Mastectomy.
Surgery pathology: No invasive carcinoma present and 17 lymph nodes removed all negative! Only small amount of carcinoma in situ in left breast.
March/April '09, Radiation to left chest wall.
Currently involved in Neratinib clinical trial.

I think things will be ok...especially since all your PET/CT's have been good...& add to that your markers have been fine. I am sending lots of positive thoughts & prayers your way. Hang in there & let us know what you find out. The waiting part is the hardest.

11-19-09 RT. Femur surgery - Rod placed
12-7-09 Navelbine added to Herceptin/Zometa.
3-23-10 Ten days of rads to RT femur. Completed.
4-05-10 Quit Navelbine--Herceptin/Zometa alone.
5-4-10 Appt. with Dr. Slamon to see what is next? Waiting on FISH results from femur biopsy.
Results to FISH was unsuccessful--this happens less then 2% of the time.
7-7-10 Recurrence to RT axilla again. Back to UCLA for options.

My strong thoughts for clean scans coming your way. You mention that your Her2serum "shot up" by 5 points, but did not say what the numbers were - from what to what?
My Her2 serum went up from 7 to 8.2 (March 2009) and my test this month is back down to 7.2. So you see for some reason it can be within a close range time after time and then change one time before going back to your "normal."

MY STORY SO FAR ~~~~
Found suspicious lump 9/2000
Lumpectomy, then node dissection and port placement
Stage IIB, 8 pos nodes of 18, Grade 3, ER & PR -
Adriamycin 12 weekly, taxotere 4 rounds
36 rads - very little burning
3 mos after rads liver full of tumors, Stage IV Jan 2002, one spot on sternum
Weekly Taxol, Navelbine, Herceptin for 27 rounds to NED!
2003 & 2004 no active disease - 3 weekly Herceptin + Zometa
Jan 2005 two mets to brain - Gamma Knife on Jan 18
All clear until treated cerebellum spot showing activity on Jan 2006 brain MRI & brain PET
Brain surgery on Feb 9, 2006 - no cancer, 100% radiation necrosis - tumor was still dying
Continue as NED while on Herceptin & quarterly Zometa
Fall-2006 - off Zometa - watching one small brain spot (scar?)
2007 - spot/scar in brain stable - finished anticoagulation therapy for clot along my port-a-catheter - 3 angioplasties to unblock vena cava
2008 - Brain and body still NED! Port removed and scans in Dec.
Dec 2008 - stop Herceptin - Vaccine Trial at U of W begun in Oct. of 2011
STILL NED everywhere in Feb 2014 - on wing & prayer
7/14 - Started twice yearly Zometa for my bones
Jan. 2015 checkup still shows NED
2015 Neuropathy in feet - otherwise all OK - still NED.
Same news for 2016 and all of 2017.
Nov of 2017 - had small skin cancer removed from my face. Will have Zometa end of Jan. 2018.

Steph,
Her2 serum went from 10.6 to 15.7 in a month time. That is what making me worried. My scans were good when it was 10.3. My CA27.29 is 7.9 (This marker is not at all reliable for me) and CEA is <0.5. I will come to know the scan results on Friday. Just crossing my fingers and praying.

I'm crossing fingers and toes for you. May the increase be caused by something totally unrelated and may the scans be scantastic!
You've been doing well so far. Most aggressive cancers recur within the first two years. After that, your odds are much better. Or so I've been told by my onc. You are almost 5 years out from diagnosis so your odds are a lot better than they were at first.
Breathe in, breathe out, slowly. There's a breathing technique that might help lower your anxiety level. Breathe in through your nose, counting to 4. Then hold your breath for 7 seconds. Exhale slowly counting to 8. Repeat 4 times.

2013 April Herceptin- TDMI
2013 Sept Herceptin + Perjeta . CA2729 within normal range. Brain and Pet scans October 31st. will post results.
2013 October Brain MRI- mixed response. Will see Onc/rad on Halloween.
2013 October/November Brain-MRI nothing new. Repeat MRI next year in May.
2013 December Continue Herceptin and Perjeta. Stable at the moment.
2014 February Brain MRI -clear!
2014 January Added Taxotere to Perjeta+Herceptin.
2014 March Stopped chemo-chest ct-scan next.
2014- March Scans shows tumor's larger, CA2729 higher. Discontinue Herceptin.
2014 April Perjeta+ Halaven
2014 April CA2729 went down 60 points after one cycle. Cough does not want to go away.
2014 June Continue on Perjeta + Halaven-- no more cough. Stable
2014 June Back on Herceptin + abraxane

I hope and pray that you will get a good report. It's hard not to be anxious when the Her2 serum gets higher (even by just 5 points). Take a look at the 'long-time survivor' thread while waiting - it will make you feel better. Many brave women have made it, you can too.
