flaxseed use

My daughter, granddaughter and I were out shopping today and she talked me into going in Wild Oats shopping. I admit I haven't really changed the way I eat too much other than cutting down fat intake because of recently learning I have high cholesterol. So I wasn't expecting too much out of the store. I did find a few things and as we were walking around the store I was telling her some of the things I've read on here. She talked me into getting some flaxseed. So now I need to know what to do with it. Can I bake with it? I bake a lot.

I have added about 1/2 to banana bread and it still tastes fine. I have also added it to spaghetti sauce and it did not seem to change the taste too much. I tend to have a touch of gas, Heeheee when I add flaxseed to foods, but no discomfort.

LOL- maybe that is where my gas is coming from.

I sprinkle a tablespoon or two on my breakfast cereal, oatmeal or stir some into a yogurt. It is very nutty and flavorful. I imagine you could put it in any kind of batter- it is pretty mild.

I grind it up in a small coffee grinder and put it in orange juice.

I first used it in pumpkin flaxseed muffins (I posted the recipe on here--you can do a search), but I was eating more than one a day (pretty good taste if I say so myself), so I now put the flaxseed into my morning oatmeal. Remember, the flaxseed has to be ground and you must keep it refrigerated as it goes bad quickly. I use Irish oatmeal (1/4 cup with 2/4 cup of water in microwave for two minutes). When it's ready I put about 15-20 grams (three to four heaping tablespoons of flaxseed) on top and mix. Then I add about 1/2 cup or so of skim milk, mix again. Ground flaxseed is sticky and clumps together so you need to break it up some. When I have something else other than oatmeal in the morning, I do as Bonnie does and mix it into orange juice.

I use flaxseed oil and just put a tablespoon in some yogurt. It appears most of you use the ground seed. Should I be using the seed instead of the oil?

Actually, flaxseed oil is probably best; I just can't stand the taste. If I could, I'd be doing the oil in yogurt as you're doing.
