Thanks Jackie. I was just wondering about bones and food. I want to know what to eat in addition to the obvious dairy products, salmon, eggs and leafy green veggies. I take calcium with vitamin D and magnesium.
I have osteoarthritis and had a hip replacement 7 years ago, so I have to take care of my bones.

Thank you both (Elaine on another thread) for the comment on my Father's picture.

Just received an e-mail message from my 2nd Sister: "Father had walked around the high rise apartment compound yesterday morning..." Good for 'bone health'!

He grew up in the high altitude mountainous region in southwest China known for people's longivity. It took him three days to 'walk' out of the area and took a bus to the city to attend high school. The only contact he had in the capital city was my Mother's Father who had known his Father through business contacts. He was one the three 'suitors' when my Mother was 'ordered' by her Father to 'get married'. (At '22', she had way passed the proper age for marriage and the oldest of her younger sisters had already been married and had kids.) "Your mother was chubby and cute when I first met her," Father would recall their first encounter decades later. They are 8 years apart and are completely the opposite in every way. My older siblings often joke that my parents are going to 'battle till the end' - trying to outlive each other...

He has survived two wars: fighting the Japanese Army in Burma-India border during WWII and the civil war against the Chinese Communists in NorthEastern China from 1945 to 1949.

He also survived TB - after taking a leave from work and staying in an infirmary for 6 months. After retirement, he began to use a solution prescribed by the dermatologist and completed restored his skin (athlete foot/hand and grey nails caused by the fungus) back to normal after diligently applying it day and night for a couple of years.

Mother has always criticized Father being 'the most negative person in the world'. He has mellowed quite a bit in his old age (after he turned 70) He gave away his savings in the form of 'scholarship' to his grand children in his 80's (thus absolved his reputation of being the 'scrooge'

But he kept enough savings to purchase an apartment two years ago in one of the new high rise buildings located in the old army village compound where I grew up.

He exercises everyday for an hour in the form of walking, arm-swinging and self-massage (sort of like 'acupressure')

Well done to your Father Jackie who sounds a wonderful man who's not allowing old age to slow him down much!!

Thanks for posting this too, I get this by e mail and found there to be good info although I have'nt as yet looked through it all.

I enjoyed your father's story. Made me think of my own dad who did not have as dramatic a life (though he was a NYC fire capt.) & lived until age 96 with untreated prostate cancer. He went to the gym in his electric wheelchair up until 6 months before he died. He could pull more weight than I could. His doctor said he lived as long as he did because he exercised. I have taken that seriously in my own life now.
