ER-/PR+ Tamoxifen effectiveness?

Hi Ladies,
I am struggling with Tamoxifen. Joint swelling, weight gain etc..., I am ER- and PR+ (strongly). I have been searching for someone on the board with similar path. report. I have read that Tamoxifen is not as effective for PR+. Do any of you gals have any info or experience with this? I would like to get back to "normal" and stop taking meds. I just finished Herceptin last month. That feels good!
Any input/advice would be appreciated!
Thank you,
Susan C.

I have the opposite pathology (ER+/PR-) and Tamoxifen tends to work better if you are positive for both (and strongly positive). Since your situation is rarer than mine, I would discuss with your onc on the effectiveness of Tamoxifen in your situation or if Evista or Megace might be better. I will see if I have something to post in my virtual library on this. However, I would never stop taking the Tamoxifen without discussing with your onc and maybe even getting another opinion (medical opinion) of what you should do.

Thank you Becky for your reply. Yesterday, was a rough day and I wanted to just stop everything and forget this all happened!! I was so strong all through treatment but now I feel so unsure of things. After reading Andie's post about "your thoughts" (of course, always knew that) it places everything in perspective.
Thanks,
Susan C
