[Introduced to one of our new members this thread which Jean had started in January. Then I noticed SoCalGal's tally (145 years for all 33 members) back in March. Thought I'd double check and add the ones after her posting. And I came up with 220 years and three months. (60 members* and 284* years as of July 9, 2011.) And it suddenly downed on me that I have survived my first diagnosis of stage I for 8 years. My recurrence in 2007, a Stage IIb, was caused by a series of failures - the surgeon thought she had had a clean margin, she didn't; the radiologist thought the shadow on the mammograms was 'scar tissue', it wasn't; my oncologist thought I was 'cured', he was wrong; my family doctor thought I was hypochondriac, he was also wrong ...

Will I have another recurence and become stage IV one of these days? Nobody knows. But just knowing the fact that so many of our stage IV sisters have beat the odds/on maintenance/receiving active treatment gives me confidence that whatever happens in the future, there is hope.

I have been Stage IV since 2009. I am on Herceptin every 3 weeks, and just started Xeloda three weeks ago. Lung mets, two tumors in right breast. No MX. It's good to hear that we can live fully even with this diagnosis.

I was diagnosed in 2001 with ductal ca...had rt mastectomy...In 2010 incorrectly diagnosed with primary lung cancer, removed lower right lobe of lung and received 16 weeks of chemo for lung ca(wrong chemo....should have been for breast ca)....In 2011 had liver mets, retested all tissues...never had lung cancer, wrong chemo....was breast cancer..in aug 2011, started taking letrozole daily and every 3 weeks Herceptin...tumor markers went down by Dec 2011, now are doubling higher every 3 weeks...dr said letrazole stopped working....any options???

Penny has just started PARP trial. And T-DM1 has been the buzz word for a couple of years. You can go to the clinical trials board and browse. You can do a 'Search'. You might want to check with your hospital/clinic for clinical trials available in your area, or go directly to the clinicaltrials.gov website.

Hang in there. There are a lot of options available these days. I'm sending you good vibes.

Hi everyone. I just joined this site after a couple of days of browsing. What a great group of women. I am Stage IV with mets to bone and liver. First diagnosis was 2 cm, left breast, no node activity. Did a mastectomy. Was never given an option for further treatment at that time. This was back in November, 2008. In October 2010, due to excruciating pain in my spine, discovered bone mets to T11 and T12 area of spine. Also found liver mets with PET scan. I've been on Anastrazole and Zometa infusions since October, 2010. Last PET scan done 5 months ago showed NED. Will continue with Anastrazole and Zometa. Just for some added encouragement, in my oncologist's office there is a board with patient diagnosis and years since diagnosis. There is a mets board with patients stating 14 years and one stating 19 years. Go sisters......

[Introduced to one of our new members this thread which Jean had started in January. Then I noticed SoCalGal's tally (145 years for all 33 members) back in March. Thought I'd double check and add the ones after her posting. And I came up with 220 years and three months. (60 members* and 284* years as of July 9, 2011.) And it suddenly downed on me that I have survived my first diagnosis of stage I for 8 years. My recurrence in 2007, a Stage IIb, was caused by a series of failures - the surgeon thought she had had a clean margin, she didn't; the radiologist thought the shadow on the mammograms was 'scar tissue', it wasn't; my oncologist thought I was 'cured', he was wrong; my family doctor thought I was hypochondriac, he was also wrong ...

Will I have another recurence and become stage IV one of these days? Nobody knows. But just knowing the fact that so many of our stage IV sisters have beat the odds/on maintenance/receiving active treatment gives me confidence that whatever happens in the future, there is hope.

Hello everyone. I have been viewing this site for quite a while now but have yet no courage to chime in. I did post a reply once, but that's about it. I have been stage IV since Dec 2010 with mets to left lung, lymph nodes, and bones. I was first diagnosed stage I back in 5/03, NED for 7 years then it came back on annual chest X-ray. Mammograms came back clear, always had been! Strange, huh? My old onc only gave me Xeloda and didn't want to listen to me to retest the receptor status. I left him and went to MD Anderson. After retesting, I was confirmed HER2+ and officially triple positive since then. I am stable now and on Herceptin, Femara, Faslodex, and Zometa.

When I was diagnosed the second time, I was crushed, I couldn't eat, get up, and do my daily stuff. I stumbled upon this site while looking for survivor stories and this group gave me hope. You all have positive way of dealing with this disease and it's contagious! I slowly began to smile again and stand up to what life has dealt me. It's been 17 months now.
