This is Michele u

My serum Her2 came back today at 11.8. The range is 0-15. I still think this is a little high? I would love to hear what other's are that have had the test done. This was my first test

Hi Michelle,

I am doing my Her2 serum since six months but the test is done by Quest lab and the range is 0-12.8. My reading was between 6 and 7. I am not sure whether this tests is comparable to yours.

Michele - Bayer Serum HER@ Test

Michele:

I posted below. My Serum HER2 Test has gone from 5.5 in September to 9.8 in November and in January to 12.2. I am very concerned as the test has a normal range of 5.1-13.5. The studies I have looked at indicate that over 12 and in some cases over 10 may be the indicator of future mets. What is interesting is the medium time to mets being clinical present was like 245 days. It appears that this test is sensitive far earlier than the CA 27-29 and CEA. What I don't know is how many Stage I, II and III patients have had Serum HER2 tests over either 10 or 12 and never developed mets.

What was your corresponding CA27-29 tumour marker test score, if you did that too at the same time ? I am trying to correlate.

Her2 Test Results

UMA:

Their was little correlation for me: Here is my detail:

Month HER2 CA 27-29

September 5.5 13
November 9.8 9
January 12.2 14

My CA 27-29 over the last two years has ranged from 9 to 26. What has me concerned is that the HER2 Serum Test normally goes up 3-4 months before the CA 27-29.

Are you seeing a different pattern?

Question for Michele U

Michele:

I just noted that my Serum HER2 in September that was 5.5 was drawn eight days after my Herceptin infusion and the November 9.8 and January 12.2 were drawn just before my treatment or 21 days since my last Herceptin infusion. Are you currently on Herceptin and if so when was your Serum HER2 drawn?

Barbara, be sure

to get your onc to check the serum her-2 marker JUST prior to your herceptin infusion...this is when it will be the highest...fyi. In general, keep in mind that the Herceptin is not exactly a cure...more like a control... In general, it looks like that you are getting the right amount of herceptin frequently enough to keep your disease well-controlled. However, if that serum her-2 starts to steadily progress on a regular basis say it goes from 9 to 12 to 15 to 20 to 40, well, then you will need to either increase your Herceptin dose or increase your frequency...my best take on it. Better safe than sorry.

Take care and be sure to follow a sound diet and supplemental plan and stay on it...walk if you can...,

Wink When to draw serum HER2

My med onc wanted it done at the same time I came in for my 3-weekly Herceptin dose. That tube was filled along with the other tubes prior to getting any Herceptin. My other markers are always taken before any drugs.
This is supposed to be the best time for accurate measurement, as Gina mentioned.
