Severe Bone Pain - Help Please!

Hello Dear Friends,
I have missed checking this, my favorite web site lately, as I have been on some migraine preventing meds that have made me just exhausted during my usual computer time at night. In any case, here is my question: a friend of mine is experiencing severe bone pain and can't seem to find relief. Oxycontin makes her dizzy and nauseous, fentynal patch just takes the edge off, she is secretly yearning for a wholistic, more natural solution...what have you all tried and what do you suggest?

I do know of some people who get relief from bone/joint /muscle pain through the use of a TENS unit, which is a transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator...probably would be available through a Dr. It would be worth a try...the oxycotin and phentynal can be very addictive...not to mention they whack you out...kind of like turning your body and brain to jello...you only wiggle when you are shaken. It might be worth a try...and could be supplemented with meds on a less frequent basis. I know you can rent them with a Dr's order, so if it doesn't work, you aren't out alot. I hope your migraines are improving....there is nothing worse than a bad migraine headache.

I use flaxseed oil and it works great for me. I am ER/PR neg so don't worry about hormonal. For those that are ER pos. there is pros and cons whether this should be used. There is a specialist here for arthritis and he recommends this to his patients. He says to start out with 2 capsules in the morning and 2 at night can increase them until you get relief. May need to take up to 10 a day. I have a 85 year old relative and she gets pain relief from this and she has severe arthritis. She can not take pain meds or chooses not to. Don't know if this will help but we are all different and so have to keep trying things. hugs, Sandy

I can really sympathize with your friend as I too suffer from severe bone pain. With each infusion of Herceptin the pain worsens. I go to a pain management doctor once a month -- currently taking Vicodin 4 times a day and morphin sulfate 2 times a day. Neither of which are helping. I was sent for a scan in August and again in October and absolutely no mets. I know Herceptin is the culprit and am seriously considering taking a few months off just to see if the bone pain subsides as I don't want to keep taking pain meds. I have also tried gloucycomine (spelling) with no relief. Bottom line, I don't know what to recommend for your firiend but let her know she not alone in the bone pain boat!

I knew I could count on our "upperclassmen" here to share some ideas, thank you Sandy, Sheila and Tousled...does any one else have other ideas? I will wait a few more days then print this thread to share your suggestions with her.

I have been experiencing excruciating knee pain in my left knee since August. I had MRIs done last week and will see the orthopedic surgeon tomorrow. Initially I was on 3,000 mg of Extra Strength Tylenol (500 mg. x 2) @ 3 times per day. This gave me no real relief. Finally 2 weeks ago she prescribed 75 mg of Voltaren which can be taken once or twice a day and it has really helped the pain subside. The generic name is IC Diclofenac SOD. It's been a godsend. I've been on other anti-inflammatories that also did nothing. It probably doesn't help either that I'm taking Aromasin. Take care!

Hi my name is leila and I have recently finished my treatment for her2 positive cancer. I was feeling really tired and ill. with a lot of pain in joints and muscles as well as dealing with menopause syptoms and weights issues, headaches when I was given a bottle of Goji Juice by my cousin who had been using it herself. Tens machines do work on the nerves but you have to be able to direct it correctly into the right nerve roots. You can also buy them through chemists and physios in Australia.

Anti inflamatories all work a little differently so you may need to try a number to find the right one but be carefull to eat with them as they can do alot of damage to your stomache lining. Voltaren have recently been implicated in heart issues here in Australia so it may be worth discussing with Dr.
