NCCN Breast Cancer Guidelines-Tool or TMI?

Interesting article in LA Times. Click on the "breast cancer guidelines" near the bottom to see the booklet.

Question Re: NCCN Breast Cancer Guidelines-Tool or TMI?

Tanya, thank you for taking the interest in us and showing us so quickly that it is here for us to see.

I'm just starting to look at it, and this caught my eye:

"NCCN Guideline Panels are multidisciplinary, which means they include experts in different fields reflecting the way cancer is treated. These fields include medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, pathology, radiology, nursing, and social work."

Conspicuously absent yet once again is the expertise of endocrinologists. Yet the breast is an endocrine gland, and so much of the disease is already acknowledged to be based in the need for better understanding of the endocrine system as it relates to breast cancer.

Will they ever "get" it?

Wink Re: NCCN Breast Cancer Guidelines-Tool or TMI?

Thanks Tanya.
By the way, I am one of the people who ask doctors about pathology. I also get copies of all my reports, so I can look up the details and try to understand more about my health problems. The more I know the better I can take care of myself and make important decisions about my health care.

AA,
I must also add that conspicuously absent are oncology dietitians-GRR... Someday...

Elaine, I am glad you get the path report. Most women I see want to be informed and I think it is wise to know the details that impact you.
