Question Metformin

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed in 2014 and completed treatment the same year. 1.7cm, ER+, Her2. I am now on Arimidex and take a bisphosphonate orally once a week ( I don't have an issue with my bones but looking at the research it seemed a valuable add to my meds). My BMI is around 30 (yes I know I could do better) however at the start of this I weighed about 30kgs more than I do at the moment. I have read that Metformin is now being talked about to help in the fight to reduce recurrence. Does anyone have any more information as what I can find seems is largely dated 2015. Really appreciate if anyone has latest information on the potential benefits of taking Metformin.

Kind regards and off to get that salad organised.

Re: Metformin

Hi Billie, I was one of the early ones that went on Metformin awhile back in an effort to reduce recurrence. I stayed in it maybe 2-3 years and hover found any studies that supported its usefulness. Just back from my Onc visit, who confirmed that Metformin does not reduce recurrence rates.
however an overall reduction of fats and sugars in our diets are good.

Re: Metformin

Hi Billie,

I don't have info on Metformin but look up the latest news on bisphosphonates...I read they can cause issue's after several years so cancelled mine once my bones were okay.
