Re: Anyone from Ontario on this board?

Hi Pinkgirl! I love northland! It must be beautiful up there this time of year. The Fall colors. Thanks for your response. Just looking for some fellow Ontarians . Sad to see you on here, but happy for this wonderul site. I just finished chemo 3 weeks ago and am starting rads next week. Continueing on hercepton until May. I am just feeling that kinda , what next . The protocol in Ontario is no Ct scans or nothing to check . ( unless you have complaints or there is some reason, but not just for followup) I know we have a wonderful Provincial Health system, but it seems like others have many scans?

Re: Anyone from Ontario on this board?

Hi Cathy,

I live in Thornhill, just south of Hwy. 407. I had my mastectomy at Princess Margaret and had my chemo and Herceptin treatments at Mount Sinai, right next door. Where are you being treated?
It's all very daunting, but you will get through it. We are so lucky to have our wonderful universal health care system where every citizen gets treatment... we don't have to worry about how we will pay, fight with insurance companies if we need certain tests etc. It's bad enough being sick, never mind worrying about those other issues.

It's the standard of care not to do unnecessary scans etc. But you can get many things done - I get a digital mammo once/year at Princess Margaret, a breast MRI once/year at Mount Sinai, a pelvic and transvaginal U/S yearly with my GP, a bone density with my GP. Obviously if I had symptoms, my onc. would do more scanning - but I'm not as worried as I used to be, and you'll see, the anxiety will lessen as you get further out from treatment.

In fact, today Oct. 16th, is my 4 year cancerversary!!

all the best
caya
