The Abraxane is the same actual medication as Taxol, but the solvent used to deliver the medication is much less toxic! Most of the side effects of the taxanes are caused by the solvents or carriers not from the actual medication. With Abraxane the medication dosage can be increased substantially without all the horrid side effects. We know the advantages that taxol has for the destruction of cancer cells but the side effects can be unbearable.

The article is very promising. The best guess is that Abraxane will be widely available late this summer. It is supposed to be on "Fast Track" approval process by FDA.
