What helps the effectiveness of Herceptin alone?

Hi,

When taking Herceptin without chemo... are you aware of any supplements/herbs that help with its effectiveness?

Diagnosed in December and due to a toxic reaction to chemo, my oncologist is placing my treatments on-hold, and in the interim I will have surgery. However she is keeping me on Herceptin, even though I'm currently not on chemo.

Thank you for your help.

Re: What helps the effectiveness of Herceptin alone?

IMHO, the same things that help the effectiveness of chemotherapy. Minimizing inflammation by diet and exercise.

Chemotherapy causes some inflammation, which again, IMHO, is a reason why the support drugs like dexamethasone are used, to suppress inflammation brought on by the chemo.

Unfortunately, there has been less investigation so far into the use of trastuzumab alone, but if it doesn't take the same level of support anti-inflammatory drugs to administer it, then logically, it isn't doing as much to cause inflammation.

Further minimizing inflammation and cancer by a selective diet that limits or avoids the foods that are thought to be more inflammatory is an option to consider.

Re: What helps the effectiveness of Herceptin alone?

Brewer's yeast or maitake mushrooms - for the beta glucan (can activate PTEN which really assists Herceptin working). Taking supplements that reduce inflammation like a baby aspirin a day, curcumin and Omega 3 (fish oil). Ensure you also take adequate Vit D3 (2000 iu per day at least)
