Has Anyone Been On Bibw 2992?

I will be starting on BIBW 2992 ( a Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitor like Tykerb) in a couple of weeks. It is phase II and my Onc thinks it is as good or better than tykerb. I have been on Herceptin for 3 years and she feels it is no longer effective. Does anyone have any knowledge about this new drug from Germany? I have been all over the internet but would love any feedback from this wonderful group. Much love and prayers to you all, Vickie

Bibw 2992

Thanks Kim! I've been finding out all I can and hope that this is the right thing for me. I also have a choice of doing Xeloda instead but it is hard to make the choice right now. My Oncologist said that this drug is from Germany and is the same thing as Tykerb under a different name. I will let you know how things go, as I start in 2 weeks. Much love and prayers to you always, Vickie

Question BIBW 2992 Response?

Hi Vicki:

How did it go with your BIBW 2992 trial? (not sure how this works - never been on a forum before......) I am considering starting a Phase II trial in Boston that's open. Herceptin is no longer effective after a year. It's either this, radiation to the site or Tykerb. Not sure what I want to do. Heading back down to Boston for yet another opinion for possible options.

Post Bibw 2992

Hi Janet, I did the phase II trial for BIBW for about 10 days, it completely knocked out the skin mets but I was so sick, diarhea, horrible face rash that was painful and just plain awful. They reduced my dose but still too strong, so I took 4 weeks off and have been on Xeloda?Tykerb for about a month and I am doing great. The Tykerb is fantastic and I have no skin mets at all (they came back quickly in that 4 week rest period). I also have hardly any symptoms with the Xeloda (I am taking a reduced dose) or the Tykerb ( I am taking the full 5 tablets). If there is anything I can do to help let me know. Should you experience difficulties with the BIBW, there is also a HKI trial, phse III going on. It is so similat to BIBW and Tykerb, Just minute differences in the formulas, bbut they are all Tyrosine Kinase Inhibitors. Let me know what you decide. Love and Hugs, Vickie

Mary Joe, HKI 272 can be googled. It is a drug very much like the BIBW and Tykerb. I am on Tykerb and it is doing the trick. Let me know if I can find out any more info for you. I know HKI272 is on the clinicaltrials.com site (I think). Love, Vickie
