Vertigo anyone?

Hi all,

I have had my second severe bout of "Vertigo"--in the last year, ended up in ER (today)

This time meds not working-Meclazine and Zofran.

They did a brain MRI and I am okay

Anyone else experienced Vertigo after treatment?
I never had it prior.

Hugs

Re: Vertigo anyone?

Hey Cal-Gal,
Although I fortunately haven't experienced much of this side effect, I recalled this thread that might be helpful.

Hope so!

Re: Vertigo anyone?

Hi Cal-Gal,

I had severe Vertigo too about a month or so ago. I would wake up in the middle of the night and feel the whole room revolving to the point I would throw up. Fortunately, my MRI came back clean too.

I saw an ENT and was told I had some inflammation in the ear. One Ibuprofen before going to bed helped me sleep peacefully and after a week, it stopped on its own.

A lot of ladies here told me that it is very common to develop Vertigo after Chemo due to vestibular damage.

hugs,
shobha

Wink Re: Vertigo anyone?

If your brain and your ears check out okay can you check for a vitamin deficiency?
I hope you feel better soon. Take care.

Re: Vertigo anyone?

Hi Cal-Gal,
I've had vertigo before as you probably read in the link Sassy found for you. Every time I'd lay down at night the ceiling would spin. Same thing when getting up. I noticed it was always when I would turn over to my left side. It was awful...I dreaded getting up and down. I found out it was nothing more then what's called "BPPV". What stands for Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo. If I remember right it's from little crystals or particles that move around in your inner ear and cause the vertigo. (It's a very common benign condition.) If it becomes to annoying most PCP's know how to do a special maneuver with your head right in their office to get rid of the vertigo. They can even teach you how to do it yourself.

OK...all that being said...I am NOT a doctor. lol So please talk to your PCP about this...or make an appt with a ENT which is your best bet. That way if its caused from something else he will know. Since you had a clean MRI I am betting on BPPV. Let us know what you find out.

Re: Vertigo anyone?

Another thing may be blood pressure (too low) which can be caused by anemia (did your counts come back up okay - some people's don't).

At least the brain is okay. Also, how are your sodium and potassium levels - are they normal. Do you have a heart problem - this happened to my mom when she needed her pacemaker (just a thought).

Re: Vertigo anyone?

Hopeful had posted an article on the balance issue that was quoted in the 'dizziness' thread:

http://news.bioscholar.com/2011/03/b...y-to-fall.html

I have experienced several 'unexpected' falls the past 2, 3 years. We need to keep in mind our new 'weaknesses' and take preventive measures.

Re: Vertigo anyone?

For what it's worth ... friend Bev, friend Jacqui, friend Rita's daughter, and brother-in-law Joe have all been dealing with benign positional vertigo for the past few months ... none of them had chemo ... I keep hearing about people having this ... maybe it's more common than you think.

Re: Vertigo anyone?

Sorry you have this awful condition Cal gal, a lady I do volunteer work with at the cancer centre suffers from this too and she has never had chemo or cancer!
My sister had it too a couple of times and they felt it may have been due to an inner ear infection!
