Dear Maryanne,
I am so sorry you are having to deal with this.
In your post, you asked if you could get testing done. I googled "radon test huntington ny" and got several hits, here is one of them. If you can get some clarity on what is going on, at least you will know what you'rd dealing with and this may ease your mind or suggest some actions you might need to take. Knowledge is power.

Good luck to you and your family

Maryanne, You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. It's just too much what you're having to deal with. I'm not very good at research these days, but will keep my "thinking cap" on in hopes of offering some ideas on cause. I do remember that one of the first things my onc asked me during our first meeting was whether I'd had alot of radiation exposure at any time in my life, such as x-rays. Someone mentioned living near high tension wires as a possible source of exposure.
Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Thank you all for being part of a wonderful team,
