Broccosprouts

Hello everyone,

Hey, have you all heard of Brocco Sprouts? You are probably all eating 1 ounce of them a day and I have never heard of them. Just read about them at the John Hopkins Ask An Expert page so did a little checking. Wow, where have I been? I will be purchasing them tomorrow.

Also, wanted to report that I had my D3 levels checked and it was 39. That is fine I am told??

Hugs and Love,

Mary Jo

They have been around awhile and were and maybe still are the only sprouts certified e-coli free--at least if I remember right. They are found refrigerated--at some stores--possible health stores. Haven't seen them in a while.

You can usually find them in the produce aisle by alfalfa sprouts etc. They have all the goodness of broccoli but much, much more concentrated. Also, I remember reading an article long ago (pre bc) that eating all newly sprouted veggies is a huge health boon because "infantile" plants have loads of beneficial biochemicals that can't be had by eating anything else. There was actually a health craze following in eating foods this way (and raw to boot). Must have not ended up being all that popular though or we'd all know about it now. I think the diet was Sproutman or something like that.

Juanita, That's a good question...I'd like to know that too. I'm already a broccoli nut. I eat it just about every day. Which I see from Becky's post that the brocco sprouts are much more concentrated so I'm very interested in what they taste like? I'm surprised I've never heard of these before now? It makes me think they aren't very exciting or tasteful? lol

They are just like any other sprout and you put them on a salad. They are meant to be eaten raw.

Brenda, That's a great link you posted on brocco sprouts. It pretty much covered everything. However I was curious about the taste and I did a search on google and came up with several opinions. Some said it taste's like grass. lol Then another site said its a *peppery* radish taste. This next comment was peppery-hot in a mild sort of way and reminiscent of fresh-cut green cabbage, also in a mild sort of way.

So I suppose you can throw then on a salad, place it in a sandwich of some kind...top some chicken breast with it...or as a last resort throw it in your mouth and chew. haha

I have been buying brocco sprouts at my local grocer (an independantly owned one, they stock more exotic fruits and veggies) for about a year. As Becky says they are meant to be eaten raw, and I usually mix them into my salad or put them into a wrap with other veggies, turkey breast. The taste is sort of like grass, but not terrible. Again, if you mix them with other foods they're okay.
Be sure to check the expiry date on the plastic box they are packaged in, usually they're only good for about 4 - 5 days.

all the best

While fresh is always better.....if you can't find the "real" thing, you can do a search for "broccosprouts capsules" and find several vendors. You can also check these commercial links:
