hi jennifer-
hi jennifer-
I'm a clinical trial coordinator and have also been a clinical trial patient too.I was dx'd with Stage IV last May 2002.In Phase III studies (like the one you were enrolled in)your placement in any of the various arms of the study is truly random (you mentioned you were ""randomized"" into the study arm that did not include herceptin).my experience w/phase III" double blind studies is when we had a new patient to randomize we would have to call into a centralized office and were assigned a patient number. That patient number randomly corresponded to any of the study arms.If they're decision was to place you in the non-herceptin treatment arm b/c of heart function " you would have been told at the beginning that you didn't meet the ""inclusion criteria"".Hope this is helpful and maybe you won't wonder any more. Please know that your contribution to breast cancer research is INVALUABLE and will help the women who follow in our path.I hope you can find comfort in knowing how much you have already given back.
Take good care"
Jessica
