good news - junk news -

Getting the junk news out of the way first.....my first haircut post-chemo turned out junk. She cut off the curls in the back of my head and that was the ONE place I really liked.

Good news: got my bloodwork test results back today and my liver panels look good and my glucose which was very low in past is back to normal.

SO.....anyways, the good news overides my bad news because it is just hair.....

AND....if my bad news just boils down to a bad haircut....you know what....I am truely blessed today with a very good life!!

Thank you!!! Sleeping good tonight with a funny haircut and a smile!!

Harriecanarie, that's great news about your bloodwork! Keep up the good work. I'm sorry about your lousy haircut, but I bet it still looks good. Those curls will grow back quick enough. I hope your back is doing better. Take care, Bill aka Wild Bill (sometimes Bad Bill)

Maryanne, my first hair cut was yuck too! Had to laugh at myself fussing about hair that a year earlier I didn't even have!!!! Oh, well, the last cut was great and I still have some good wavy locks! So glad your tests proved good! Cheers to you!

Marcia,
Funny,...I did have a moderate case of the "onc test anxieties" this week. I am so conditioned, it will take a bit of time to get out of that mode I guess. Then today I was so focused on my bad hair day, it came as a complete surprise then I got the call from the ofc that my labs were all good!
I hope your BRCA friend calls me.
How is everything coming along from stage 3?
Maryanne

Hi Maryanne,

Great news about your blood work. Sorry about the bad haircut. But it reminds me of something I heard a few years ago at a Cancer Survivors Day celebration where I went for treatment when I had early stage bc and where I now go for treatment. There was a presentation by a mother and daughter. The daughter was eight years old and had been fighting leukemia on and off since the age of two. Her mother had been recently diagnosed with breast cancer and treated. The little girl was very cute, and at the end of her "speech" she said, "A bad hair day is better than a no-hair day." It was very heart-warming. Joan

Cancer advanced to lung in Jan. 2007 (1 cm nodule). Started Herceptin every 3 weeks. Lung wedge resection April 2007. Cancer recurred in lung April 2008. RFA of lung in August 2008. 2nd annual brain MRI in Oct. 2008 discovered 2.6 cm cystic tumor in left frontal lobe. Craniotomy Oct. 2008 (ER-/PR-/HER2-) followed by targeted radiation (IMRT). Coughing up blood Feb. 2009. Thoractomy July 2009 to cut out fungal ball of common soil fungus (aspergillus) that grew in the RFA cavity (most likely inhaled while gardening). No cancer, only fungus. Removal of tiny melanoma from upper left arm, plus sentinel lymph node biopsy in Feb. 2016. Guardant Health liquid biopsy in Feb. 2016 showed mutations in 4 subtypes of TP53. Repeat of Guardant Health biopsy in Jana. 2021 showed 3 TP53 mutations, BRCA1 mutation and CHEK2 mutation. Invitae genetic testing showed negative for all of these. Living with MBC since 2007. Stopped Herceptin Hylecta (injection) treatment in March 2020. Recent 2021 annual CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis and annual brain MRI showed NED. Praying for NED forever!!

Great news Harrie!

I understand about the haircut. I had never minded having a bad haircut before BC--it always grew out in a couple of weeks. But when I got a bad haircut after BC, I did mind because I was happy to have my hair back and didn't appreciate somebody messing it up!

I'm sure you look great regardless!

My hair cut is funny too (way to short) - but at least it is great to have hair, even if it will be another 6 months before it can be styled

It is great to hear that your blood panels are good - here is hoping that all future medical tests will be great.

Hi Harriecanarie
Sorry to hear about the haircut! - I can empahsise though - it seems with the taxotere/herceptin my hair looks like it is growing back - all different lengths though! - I think I'll wait till my last taxotere and then get it trimmed all the same length - lol!
I have a friend who made some head scarves that say 'hair is good but life is better'
Hope yours grows back real soon the way you like it.
And really good news about the blood results eh?
Blessings
Hermiracles
PS You look great!

Hiya Harrie,
Stage 3 went well and I bounced back immediately HOWEVER all of a sudden at the 2 week mark (and after I went back for suture removal and post op) I feel lousy. I need to go back to work next week (28th) so I am going to rest, eat well and hope for the best! Thanks for asking! (I started taking Biotin supplement to see if my hair loss will slow down, will let you know how it goes)
Hugs
Marcia

bouncing back

Hey Marcia,
Glad to hear all is good with stage 3.
I hope all you had was a cold bug or something and you recover quickly.
Sometimes when you look at the work that you surgeon did, aren't you just so amazed!!! I just can't believe it myself.
Take care.
Aloha,
Maryanne
