Wonderful site!

I was dianosed in February with stage 4 with mets to the liver. This is the most positive site I have found. To read the posts from the women who have overcome so much lifts my soul. The information that I have found here has really been helpful. When my oncologist first talked to me he told me that I was a young woman ( I am 51) and that this was was probably what would I would die of someday but it wouldn't be now. The posts that I have read here have helped make someday a long time from now for me.
I am taking Taxol, Hercertin and carboplaten, and understand much more about the treatment now. I felt like I was wandering on a vast internet desert with lots of negative information. I am really getting tired of being told what a bad prognosis I have. I keep reminding people that statistics are always behind by several years. I think that the newer drugs like Herceptin are making a huge difference but it will be a while before the statistics catch up.
Having a Master's in Biology (although I use it very little these days) I am very glad to see the links to the more technical information as well. "Knowledge is power" and at the very least helps me feel that I still have some control in my life.
Speaking as good Southern girl, "y'all are great"!

Hi Leslie!

So glad you found this site. It has blessed so many!
I took the Herceptin, carboplatin, taxol tx too! Thank God for all the new and up and coming drugs for us. And yes the stats are behind! And some of us tough ol' birds will prove them wrong!

Smile Welcome Leslie!!!!

Honestly, and I mean this, this is whithout a doubt the BEST place for you to be. I was dx in 2/05 and have been here ever since. There are MANY Stage 4 women her who are doing well. Also, compared to the OTHER "support groups: ( I use the term loosely as some of them are downright HORRIBLE...all the fighting and name calling is unbelievable) and I am one of the "technical" nerds on the site and just LOVE this aspect, but most of all...it's the love for each other that keeps me here. BIG huggs to you. Take care and God bless.

Rhonda

Thumbs up

Dear Leslie,

Welcome aboard the best support ship anywhere!
Sorry that you have had to join us - but you will
find we are a great group of ladies and gentlemen.

I also had TCH treatment. I completed the chemo portion
in Sept. and will finish my one yr. of herceptin shortly.
The time will go fast I assure you. It may not seem so
as you enter treatment, but as I look back it went fast.

If you have any questions or anything....just reach out.

God Bless,
and the very best of success with your treatments.

Jean

Welcome aboard Leslie!

I ditto Rhonda's comments. It is a wonderful site and it is a site full of love and care from all who come on board. I've never been to a "regular" support group so I don't know what they are like. However, this "support group" is a wonderful place to gain knowledge, give support and encouragement and to receive support and encouragement and I am so glad you found us.

God's Blessings of Peace I send to you,

Mary Jo

Thumbs up TCH is a good one!

Hi Leslie,
Sorry to have you join this little family, but it is indeed a wonderful one.

I had T/C/H for extensive liver mets in 2004 (diag at 50) and it kicked cancer butt. I'll be praying the same happens for you. It sounds like you have a great oncologist - one who will get out the big guns for you and most importantly, give you a dose of hope.

Try to focus forward, the best doctors are beginning to see this as a disease which can be managed for a good amount of time, almost as a chronic disease. In the meantime, there are lots of researchers busy working on the answers we all hope will be found soon.

We're all here for you.

Hang in there!
Chris

Red face Thanks for all the replies

Sorry I haven't been back sooner. It was a rough week and now I am having trouble with my port. I think it willl be resolved next week. Can't sleep tonight, the decadron just won't let go. Any suggestions for that or do I just use Friday night to catch up on the net? I have several great emails form people on the board and my spirits are high even with the way I felt after last week's chemo and this mess with my port.
By the way, I may not catch all my typos. I raised and released a baby raccoon last year and there was one memorable day that I walked in to my my little technocoon shucking keys off my laptop like it was an ear of corn. He has moved on to the wild but my computer has never fully recovered. So please excuse my occasional lack of caps as this is one of the keys that still malfunctions.
I am excited to hear about all the women who are doing so well with the stage 4 diagnosis. In a couple of weeks I am having more tests done and hopefully they will clear some confusion about my liver. They have not done a biopsy and the Pet scan results were not completely clear. I hope they are wrong but there was activity in the scan.
