I don't believe it!

I went to my veterinary with my Rottweiler because he has a problem with his foreleg. My vet decided to do some X ray: What my vet said was very hard: my dog has a bone cancer!
I'm exhausted. First me, my mom and also the dog!!!!!

Fortunately my mom is quite good in this period. The surgeon decided not to do the surgery because it could be worst for mom (a very difficult surgery cutting also the bladder), but radio and chemo had a good effect.

I am so sorry....my dog was also diagnosed with cancer in the lymph nodes right after I had a recurrence to mine....it broke my heart. She was 10 years old. I made the decision not to put her through chemo. She was too sick. My heart goes out to you....my Mom also has breast cancer, but she is a 19 year survivor...it makes me wonder if things come in threes like they say. I will remember you in my prayers....I know how hard it is.

Smile Unbelievable

makes you think that all of this cancer MUST be environmental since even animals are contracting cancer no.

Unreal.

I am sorry, I know how much you can love your pets. My little maltese is going on 17 years in a couple of months and I know that I will be heartbroken her time comes. But they have served us as wonderful companions and given us much love and good memories. Maybe everything will be ok with your dog. Hope so.

Prayers for your mother...

Take care

I am sorry to hear about your dog! Makes you wonder, how a poor dog can contact cancer but animals do. It is so scary. Keep us posted on what he has for treatment if you decide to go that route. Will pray that God will guide you in making the right choices for his well being as well as comfort. Sending you a hug, Sandy

oh crap... I sure know how you feel... well I think I do.

since my first dx and dx with mets - first one, then the next of our rottie girls were dx'd with cancer. One even needed a brain scan! and me with brain mets...

Our first had her spleen removed, the tumor being the size of a large orange. She died suddenly one morning, about a yr. later, without warning or significant illness.

Just this past Oct. we set our second girl free from Malignant Melanoma which was dx'd in June. She'd had a toe amputated the previous Feb, but through a screw up, no lab work was done on it. This is fairly rare in dogs. Tx not effective.

If we had had a dx of bone cancer, I'd be looking hard at the effectiveness of available tx's, quality of life issues, overall prognosis.

oh...and my darling cousin, mom to four young'ins was dx'd with bc just this past fall.....

so sorry for this added blow,
sending some hugs,
pattyz

Malena,

You have my sympathies. I lost my beloved Keeshond to an agressive cancer that started in his spinal cord over 10 years ago, and still grieve. It has made me wonder if there is something on my property that could have contributed to both his and my own disease. Radon?

Glad to hear your mom is doing better. Best of luck to you.

Geez Malena - how much more of this beast can one tolerate? I feel for you as my dog has become so special to me this past year with my diagnosis. He knows when I am having a down day!

Sorry to hear you have to deal with this in another sense.

Malena, I know how you must feel and I send you my love. My angel of a cat and friend, Rachel, died of cancer while I was going through the worse part of my chemo. I was so very sick and took her in to be put to sleep. Once they gave her a tranquilizer, before the final shot, she laid there and purred and I cried tears of relief and sorrow. She actually looked at me and I knew she was going to be at peace and that I would see her again someday. I still miss her. She was with me through everything. I will praY for your sweet dog and your mother as well. Love, Vickie

AWW Makena I'm so very, very sorry to hear about your sweet animal companion and his cancer. I know this is very hard.

Being a Vet Tech I can also tell you that, that type of cancer is very common one in Rotties.

Glad to hear your Mom is doing fine.

Malena - I am so sorry to hear this, but I am happy to hear that your mom is doing well!

There is hope for your dog... 10 years ago was my first experience with a family member who had cancer - it was my CAT. She also had bone cancer. It was in her spinal column, pushing on her spinal cord. We did surgery to remove the tumor, then treated her with A/C and then did radiation. She came through like a champion! What an awesome patient she was. She was as good as new for 5 years exactly - until suddenly one day I came home and found her flat out on the bathroom floor, very weak. We found that the cancer had come back in her liver, nothing else we could do.

But I am so happy that I treated her for the cancer (I am probably still paying that credit card bill, LOL) and that she responded so well. She was one of the loves of my life. And she is one of my inspirations as I continue my cancer journey!

Melena,

I know how you feel. Besides my two children, my Rottie, is like my first born child. Just after I was dx my husband found three lumps on Titan's back and chest. I was so terrified, me and now my dog. But thank God it turned out to be fatty tissue. Again this year we found another massive one on his chest, right now we are considering having it biopsied, even though the vet assures us its a fatty lump. Im just a little nervous over it and I want to be cautious. I think I can deal with my own cancer better than his. He has been my friend that listens, lets me cry and rave on and just replys with his licks and paws. Sometimes our pets are just as comforting as our human family member. So what have you and your vet decided with your dog? I hope everything turns out for the best.

All the best to you and your mom also.

Dawn

My white sheperd "Moon" (11 years young) was diagonsed with bone cancer (tumor on his front elbow) when I was in my 3rd round of A/C. They said that normally they would remove his leg where the tumor is, but his back legs are not good due to hip displaysia so he is living with the tumor on his elbow for now. He still has a good appetite and still wants to walk around the block and play with his toys. We know the time is short for him but do not think he is in that much pain. I feel for your pain with your dog and mom, you are not in this alone.

Malena,

Sorry to hear about your dog. That's horrible.

One of my neighbor's dogs was recently diagnosed with mouth cancer, had some surgery and is now undergoing radiation treatments. My neighbor now hopes to try to set up a foundation to further cancer research for dogs.

Glad to hear the chemo and rads have a good effect on your mom's cancer.

I know what it is like to be bombarded with many things at one time. My dad was dxed with prostate cancer in fall of 2005, my sister breast cancer in early 2006 and then my own breast cancer in late 2006. In December, my sweet dog (border collie mix) was just going down hill fast and we had to say goodbye to her just shy of her 19th birthday. But I've gotten through it all and I'm still standing.

All my best to you, mom and the dog!

Kathy

Malena I'm so sorry about your dog having to go through this too.

I lost my 18 year old cat to spine cancer while I was doing chemo and
it just broke my heart. I think I was more upset he had it than I had!
I know what you're going through and just wanted to say I understand.
Hugs

Thank you girls for your support!!!! We have the biopsy of Gugio on thursday! I don't loose the hope!!!!

LAURIE: is your dog still alive???? The problem of my dog is the same: maybe bone tumor in the front leg! My vet said that in case is not possible to remove the leg because is the front one (and the rottweier is a big dog!!!). But the vet said that this tumor is very painful and fast (3-4 months)!!!!

Sorry Malena. We have two cats and love them so much that I can very much feel for what you're going through right now. I've seen stories about dogs with three and two legs and they seem to survive and have good lives. But perhaps they were back legs. I hope you get news on Tuesday. Abraccio.
