Atypical hyperpleasia = excisional biopsy vs. mastectomy

Hi,
Results from sterotactic biopsy: atypical hyperplasia. Radiologist suggested excisional biopsy. My surgeon suggested doing a prophylactic mastectomy since I was considering the surgery last year after my third scare with cysts and changing microcalcifications. The surgeon also suggested IF I wanted to start reconstruction that was possible. Previous consult with plastic surgeon last April was positive to do reconstruction, and he said it would be easier, of course, to not have to match the remaining breast.

I am 62 now. Is that too late to begin reconstruction? I think I'm in good health except for 10 pounds over my goal weight. In some ways, it feels like a step on the side of optimism to consider reconstruction.

I'd appreciate comments on your experiences with excisional biopsy or mastectomy & reconstruction at the same time. Am I reaching too high? Thanks so much.
