Re: Treatment after Kadcyla?

Hi Juls. I won't pretend it was easy.....hair loss, fatigue but took anti nausea meds so that wasn't a problem. Fatigue was worse first week and I was almost back to normal by time for next dose. I'm not sure, but don't think we've as much choice of treatment as people in USA and you have to do something! I was treated at Gartnaval. Hope you get good answers soon. Nancy

Tumour was 1.2cms; Grade3; Er+ Pr+ HER2 3+++; SNB negative out of 9 nodes.
Chemo was Epirubicin every 3wks x4 then Xeloda (2wks on, 1wk off) for 4 cycles. ( I am part of the TACT2 trial.)
Rads x25
Arimidex for 5 yrs.
Hoping to start Herceptin within the next 2 weeks (we have to follow the HERA protocol to qualify for Herceptin in the U.K.) I worry about the delay in starting Herceptin!! Started 8/10/07

Hi Nancy,

Have to agree - very little choice here!
Told I'm in the best place (Beatson)
Hopefully some answers tomorrow.

Re: Treatment after Kadcyla?

Hi All,

Choices are :-

1. Epirubicin

2. Eribulin

2. No Chemo.

Looks like its Eribulin as I can have Herceptin with it (If NICE Scottish Health Board allow it!) Oncologist would like decision by Monday to start Thursday.

First time I have been undecided.

Re: Treatment after Kadcyla?

Jules

I hope other people put in their input but if you can get Herceptin with the Eribulin it would seem the way to go. Im sorry you are having problems with the medical board.

I tell what I know about Eribulin from memory. It inhibits microtubules like Vincristine and Taxol drugs do. I think the brand name is Halavan. I think it is given twice a week during the cycle. I forgot the dose, 1.4mg /m2 comes to mind. Not sure

The big side effects are neutropenia, hair loss and peripheral neuropathy. And the usual fatigue. constipation and diarrhea etc.

I imagine they dont want to combine Adriamycin with Herceptin because both drugs can affect the heart. Hope this helps a bit

Re: Treatment after Kadcyla?

Hi all,

Not been on site for a while. Had 2nd Eribulin on 21st - so far feel ok. A bit of sort throat but time will time!
Still waiting on all information I asked for at last oncologist visit.

Now quite disabled as leg swollen and restricting movement - something I was not told when I had radiotherapy.
Not sure if it will go back to normal now. I now have Nurses, Occupational Therapists, District Nurses, Physio's visiting. The busiest house in the area!!

Re: Treatment after Kadcyla?

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the info. It always helps!

So far they are giving me 2 weeks on with one off. I'm told that after this 2nd treatment blood levels particularly platelets will fall probably just before the next cycle. So far feel ok but time will tell!

Thanks

Aug 18, 2013: MRI report says Left breast is perfectly healthy "consistent with previous studies".

Sept 2013: I insist on a bilateral mastectomy anyway. Too nervewracking to let left breast remain with higher risk after 3 cancers in right, nipple in right is already gone anyhow.

Sept 18, 2013: Bilateral mastectomy, 11 right nodes removed, ALL negative BUT -- ER+/PRO+/HER2+ tumor, 1.0 cm, Grade 2 found in a piece of "grossly unremarkable" breast tissue from prophylactic mastectomy of left breast, no nodes removed.

Oct 25, 2013: 13 left side nodes removed, ALL negative, Stage 1 across the board, NO RADS needed, YAAAAY! Port also installed.

Nov 25, 2013 Begin 6 rounds TCH.

March 10, 2014 Just finished 6th and LAST Chemo today, YAAAAAY!

March 24, 2014 Echocardiogram to make sure I'm still good for Herceptin every 3 weeks.

March 31, 2014 Echo results NORMAL, first Herceptin all by itself. Now if only my eyes would stop streaming from the Taxotere ... :)

April 21, 2014 Started Arimidex and therapy for "mild" lymphedema in left hand and arm

May 2014 Therapy completed, I have sleeves and gloves for both arms, a Flexi touch lymph pump to hook up to for an hour every day, and I've become an arm bandaging expert. :)

Nov 17, 2014 FINAL Herceptin!

Dec 4, 2014 My right thigh muscle has been extra achy for days ... I discover a blister rash cluster on the side of my right thigh while taking a shower. Port appointment cancelled until Dec 17, my doc is working me in tomorrow afternoon to see me and the rash. My muscle at least feels less achy.

Dec 5, 2014 Yep, I have shingles. Boo! I start acyclovir and also have a prescription for a painkiller just in case for over the weekend.

Dec 17, 2014 Port is OUT!

January 2016 Shingles again and this time it started where my left breast (where the hidden HER2+++ tumor was!) used to be. My onc nurse got me a same day appointment to see my doc when I called and told her I had a rash on the site. The antiviral meds are working once again, though, so that is good news. :)

Re: Treatment after Kadcyla?

Hello everyone, this is Julie's son, Iain.

My beautiful Mum sadly passed away on Saturday 13th April.

I apologise if this is not the done thing to post the news here, but I know this forum has been a great source of hope, support and inspiration to my Mum over the last 5 years, and felt the least I could do was notify anyone who may know her.

On her behalf, I'd like to thank all of you for your kindness and support.
