Lida, I too am Vitamin D deficient again this yr after seeing my Endocrinologist. My Vitamin D level was lower this yr then last yr. So my Endo perscribed vitamin D I bought from his office. I am to take my normal D I've been taking which is 2000 IU's per day...and he wants me to add one pill per week thats 5000 IU's.

My Vitamin D level last yr was 29 which is one digit below the reference range...& this yr it dropped to 24. I don't know how mine can be so low? I'm very concerned as my DEXA scan this yr showed significant changes in my bones. I'm worried and I don't think he is taking it as serious as I am. I've done some research and see alot of ppl with a Vitamin D deficiency are given 50,000 units as you are suppose to take. Makes me wonder why my Endo did not prescribe me a higher dose?

Sorry I'm probably not much help but I am glad you posted this because I am going to look into a higher dose. I see "dhealey" is taking 50,000 3 times a wk. Anyone else on this board that has information on this topic would be appreciated.

Say that AGAIN?

Hi Lida,

The first time I heard my PCP prescribe 50,000 units for a patient who was vitamin D deficient, I thought I was hearing things, or that he'd had a rough night. But for specific patients, surprisingly that is the right dosage.

Be well,

AlaskaAngel
