How much radiation is safe

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me. During 2014 I completed chemo and a year of Herceptin. While undergoing this I had the usual heart scans, but two xrays of hip and back (all normal thank goodness) and a mammogram. My surgeon has offered me a full CT scan just for reassurance. Have I had too much radiation in a year? or would the group suggest I go ahead with the CT. Many thanks for all the wonderful advice and comfort you all provide.

Re: How much radiation is safe

Hi Billie,

I'm really not sure how much radiation is enough, but my Onc believes its best to only do scans when there are suspicious symptoms as its best not to have extra radiation if you don't need it and to keep it for when you may. I think if you feel well I wouldn't bother with any more scans and just go forward and live your life and put this behind you. The rule of thumb is any pain or lump that persists for 2-3 weeks should be investigated more, good luck.
