I am on Femara and I'm having hot flashes but they are not really really bad. Mainly at night but I can't imagine having them in the summer. Won't the hot flashes go away after my body adjusts to the femara? My doctor has recommend effexor for the hot flashes. Effexor is an anti-depressant. Has anyone ever taken effexor for medicine inducted hot flashes? What kind of side effects should I expect? How long will I need to take the effexor?

Thanks for all the support!
Hugs and Smiles,
Angela

I had my ovaries removed but I am not estrogen positive. So I'm not on Tamoxifen or Fermera. I take Effexor for the hot flashes. I take 75mg which is a low dose and that is what they recommend for the hot flashes. It's also a good antidepressant also. I take it in the morning because I found it keeps me up an night if I take it in the evening. If your not already on another antidepressant I think Effexor would be a good idea. It has really helped mine alot. I used to wake up in sweats now if a have one i just get hot and they don't last very long.

I just asked my doctor last week about Effexor being effective on hot flashes. She said no.

Now I'm confused. Any more input on Effexor??

The article I read stated that Effexor could be 60percent effective on hot flashes.I cant find the article but there are lots of articles on the net if you just put in effexor and hot flashes.

I tried effexor, threw up for 5 days (an atypical reaction). For my hot flashes/menopausal symptons, which are overwhelming (enough so to have put me back on HRT at one point before I got mets)I take all these: Neurontin, Serzone (in small trials has proved effective), Amitryptaline (helps me sleep through them at night), massive Vit. E (1200 IU/day), and Black Cohosh (reported recently to be a no for mets patients, but it's a quality of life issue for me). I don't dare miss one of these things or I'm screwed up for days.
