Cool update on me

Hello all, I have been getting biweekly treatments of taxol and herceptin. I am doing well with this except for some side effects like numbness and joint pain and sinus issues. I just went on disability coz work was getting to be a bit much for me. I had my treatment yesterday and saw my onc and had asked her about my yearly mammogram. I was told that since I was being treated currently that I would not require a mammogram. Is this the norm? Just curious. Also would appreciate a prayer for dad as he fell again and had more bleeding in his brain. This time they had to operate and make a large incision to clean out the dried stuff from before and drain the new to ease the pressure. He seems to be doing ok, but is a little out of it still. Will keep you posted.

Hi "womanofsteel"...

I'm glad tx is going well for you. I pray it continues too and I also pray that the tx does it's job. Also, asking the Lord to bring about healing and peace for your father.

As for the mammogram during tx....I can't help you their. I had my mammogram of other breast right after tx was finished because it was then time. Others should be able to help you with that question though.

Love & Peace to you..

Mary Jo

Womenofsteel,

It looks like your doing well with the side effects of Taxol and Heceptin. The numbness and tingling are the norm. I had that as well as a loss of strength in my hands.

When I a right breast mastectomy but continued to have left breast mammograms when I was in treatment for early stage bc and now that I had a recurrence.

I'm praying that your dad will fully recover from his fall.

Joan

Removal of tiny melanoma from upper left arm, plus sentinel lymph node biopsy in Feb. 2016. Guardant Health liquid biopsy in Feb. 2016 showed mutations in 4 subtypes of TP53. Repeat of Guardant Health biopsy in Jana. 2021 showed 3 TP53 mutations, BRCA1 mutation and CHEK2 mutation. Invitae genetic testing showed negative for all of these. Living with MBC since 2007. Stopped Herceptin Hylecta (injection) treatment in March 2020. Recent 2021 annual CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis and annual brain MRI showed NED. Praying for NED forever!!

Hey there, Superwoman! I'm glad you are tolerating your new tx well. Your side effects are pretty typical of the taxol and herceptin combo. (neuropathy/aches/sinus issues) Just wondering-if you've already answered this question elsewhere, I apologise. Have you and your onc. discussed adding Tykerb to the mix? Nicola's situation was different from yours (she basically went from stage 0 to stage IV) but when it was found that she had liver mets, they put her on taxol/herceptin and a clinical study of lapatinib(Tykerb) at the same time. This combo. of taxol/herceptin/tykerb kept her liver mets under control, and actually shrinking for 15 months. She had no other mets to deal with at that time, other than some spinal T mets that we were never sure if they were mets or not. You and your father will be in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for keeping us posted. Oh, Nikki didn't have to have any more mammograms once she began chemo. either

Hi WOS,
Sorry about your dad having another fall. You certainly do have
your hands full right now. Hope he's soon on the mend.

As for the mammogram question: I had a right breast mastectomy
and had a left breast mammogram during my treatments.

Hi Superwoman-just wanted to say that I am glad you are doing well. I guess I am too early in my chemo to offer advice (diagnosed 7/14/08). I do want to tell you I am thinking about you and your dad and hope he is doing well. My mom is 84 and doesn't walk too well due to arthritis in spine. I know it is an extra worry when we go thru this and I think what if something happened to her? We just pray instead of worry and I have placed it in God's hands and will follow what he wants me to do and let Him be in control for awhile. That was a weak spot for me (giving up control) and since diagnosed I think God has finally shown me something I have no control over-except to pray and keep a good attitude. Hmmmmmm reckon he has a plan for me and for each of us. I think He does and it also keeps me positive that He plans me to get thru this to use what He is teaching and showing me. Sorry if I get off track or longwinded, I start replying and just keep going. Again know I will be thinking of you and thanks for listening.
