Post HER2 Breast Cancer Vaccine Trial NOW ENROLLING

HER2 Breast Cancer Vaccine Trial NOW ENROLLING: The 135 trial is for stage IV HER2+ breast cancer patients that are in complete remission or have stable bone only disease. Patients are randomly assigned to one of two groups. Both groups receive a HER2 peptide vaccine and Herceptin (from their oncologist). The difference between the two groups is that one will receive Polysaccharide Krestin (PSK®), which is a natural mushroom product as a tea, while the other group will receive a placebo also as a tea. No one (including the study staff) will know which patient receives which treatment. We are looking to see whether the PSK is safe when give with the vaccine and Herceptin, and whether it will help boost the immune response that we see with the vaccine. This trial requires the patient to come to Seattle, WA 5 times, 4 for the vaccine and 1 for follow-up. We then ask for follow-up blood draws at month 5 and 12, but these can be done at their local physician’s office. If you would like more information, please contact the Tumor Vaccine Group toll free at 866-932-8588 or email TVGTrial@uw.edu

Will this be available for Stage I patients? I would love to do anything possible to stave off recurrence (especially being BRCA2).

Looks like it's a Phase I/II trial. It might take a year or two before it's available for early stage patients.
