Re: Ovarian suppression before and during chemo reduces early menopause

Good stuff. It is a bit discouraging, though, that the doctor at the end only seemed to think about avoiding pre-mature menopause as only being about fertility. Chemopause is also associated with other health problems, particularly very heavy bone loss equivalent to several years of normal post-menopausal bone loss. Given the recent concerns about the long-term use of bone-strengthening drugs, the bone issue deserves more attention.

Finding solutions

However, it does show that the entire endocrine and reproductive system is very much involved in the decision-making process for women diagnosed with breast cancer, and shows how vital it is that patients have the right to be given access to all possible ramifications and choices involved, and not just the information from the narrowly focused doctors who specialize in treatment of cancer at the time of crisis.

We need fully integrated interpretation for our individual consideration by ENDOCRINOLOGISTS at the time of diagnosis. These are the doctors who could help us by providing the information about bone issues vs fertility issues at time of decision-making, without a bias.

This is particularly true given that it is fact that most cancer treatment drugs are neither known to be highly successful nor specific to any particular patient.
