I Have Cobra Insurance Through My Former Employer. I Was Able To Extend It After Getting Approved For Social Security Disability. I Understand That After 2 Yrs On Disability I Will Be Able To Get Medicare. Will They Automatically Send Me The Paper-work A Few Months Before I Am Able To Qualify Or Do I Need To Contact Social Security. Cobra Ins. Is So Expensive, I Still Have A Little Over A Year And I'm Not Sure How I'm Going To Manage To Pay For It.

I also get SSDI and they automatically sent me the Medicare info about 3 months before the Medicare effective date (or maybe it was 6 months...chemo brain). They actually sent me a Medicare card and if I kept it, it was assumed that I was accepting Medicare (I returned it because I am on long-term disability through my employer and if I took Medicare, I would lose my employer-provided benefits).
